aaaaannnnnnnnddddddd....................

the debut of the Semogue 830!

Much has been written about the 830, and I think the best parts are true! This is the second of two brushes bought new for DecemBoar, the other being the Galahad that I used yesterday. Both were pretreated by me at the same time, with daily soaks (5-10 minutes) followed by hand lathering for another 5-10 minutes. Both are 22mm knots, per the website info from Maggards. But this one is softer, more broken in feeling. It has a ways to go yet, but I think this is a winner. Held lather for a good 3 passes, but was getting stingy on the 3rd pass and I had to coerce it a little!

That 830 will round into shape nicely - the blonde C3 Galahad is a beauty too and mine is coming along nicely.  I have the C3 in the banded boar as well and I had hoped it was the same know as the 1305 but I don't think it is.  Still pretty good but that 1305 is just wonderful.  All the SOCs are great as is the 2000.  I'm a big fan of Semogue.

I tried and failed to get some images from another forum. So here is a link where someone associated with Semogue (I assume) created a table listing characteristics for various Semogue brushes. This is from 2018. I found it very informative!

Tonight I chose to use the 26mm shoat Knot. I figured it was time to try the larger knots. The 22 gave me enough lather, albeit a bit light. The 24th gave me copious amounts, but was a little painful. I figured the 26 should produce a ton.

Unfortunately, I have forgotten I tried this knot already. Same as last time, I got one weak lather put of nearly 100 swirls. This is one hungry knot, eating soap like a champ. It was comfortable enough, and I did get a good shave after going back twice to the puck. However, this just seems absurd... A 26mm can't hold more than one pass worth of lather? Just odd.

I know they say that boars eat the lather at first... Well, I hope it ends soon. A 26mm behaving like that is ridiculous. Ooh well, off to another boar for Tuesday. I think it may be time to jump back to Semogue.

Have a good evening DFS!

The brush that was broken is now remade!

The Fluffy Industries Copper handle has been cleaned, sealed, and reset with the ungelled TNS shoat knot.
mrdoug, I will keep my soap tub handy for reloading, assuming this knot acts like your half-gel knot did! It is on deck for tomrrow's Micromatic Monday shave.

Definitely watching. I wonder if it's the knot or the gelled part that makes it 'hungry'. Which, btw, I really don't understand... How does it "eat lather" (in real terms, sans the personification)?
