I can't detect any rose in my newly purchased Passiflora. I get a fruit forward floral with some bite [green/herbal] in  it to keep it from being overly sweet.  And I am a rose-a-pile, so if there was any it wouldn't have  hurt my feelings. There must be some tuberose or white floral accord that Davey is keen on or tuned to.

The inner-web has  some very inerstin concepts on smell - and it is really poorly understood. I think covid [my wife & i save has it twice inspire of Dubl vaxx/boosters] screwed my wife's nose up. She thinks coffee smells like baloney - it could  be me

Big Grin  Big Grin  Big Grin Maybe it's the overly floral having me think rose. I was hoping it to be more a spicy and fruity. Glad I got the sample and happier y'all are digging it.  Happy2
I do get a strong passion fruit from it which I like. It’s clearly got some floral obviously (passiFLORA) but it’s balanced to my no because I can’t pick out any specific flower. I’d be bummed if my morning coffee started smelling like baloney. Sad

Yeah, no bologna coffee for me please. Unfortunately I get no passion fruit or any fruit for that matter. Oh well, saves me from a purchase I didn't need. I will get an omnibus base soap in a scent I like at some point though  Happy2

I just stuck my nose in the tub and still no rose for me.
TBH I've often said the same about my nose.  At any rate, I just opened the sample of Passiflora that arrived today.  I smelled something that might have been rose ... or it might have been grapefruit ... or it might have been something - I don't know what - but it was something that made me sneeze when I was a kid.  So that's how helpless I am.

PS Dave in KY  I didn't think of the Bullwinkle post as ribbing or in anyway negative, and I hope it did not come across that way.  To me it was just a tongue-in-cheek allusion to YMMV.

This is why scent is the hardest part for soap makers - they try to make something that smells the way they want it to for the greatest number of people.  Some will get it so won't some will like it some won't .  What a way to make a living.  I told this story before but what the heck - a couple of years back my wife and I were in a store that sold mens fragrance and she was wanting to buy me something for Christmas I think so we smelled an assortment of things and then I brought home 4 paper swatches to come back to over time to see what I liked or if I liked. I'd smell them and ask my wife what she thought but there was one that I could not detect any scent on.  I was wondering if the clerk missed  the swatch and then I asked my wife to smell it and she recoiled saying that it was overwhelming.  Go figure.  It occurred to me that that might be one of the reasons you encounter people who seemed to have bathed in EDP before going out - they couldn't detect the scent they thought they had and kept putting more on.  I must have liked something about the scent that was supposed to be on the "empty swatch" when it was sprayed on - I didn't tell her to just go randomly spraying samples.  Maybe its possible to go permanently nose blind to something after smelling it once briefly?  I dont know, but I do know that people get weird about scent.  Ask Will about Night Music - he took abuse for that one from people.  I like the scent but I can understand if you don't like it but I don't understand disliking it to the point where you send abusive emails to the maker.  Some people also get bent if you don't also love their favourite scent - this only happens online of course  Big Grin  Like rose or bay rum.... I did just use Van Yulay Bay of Roses and it was a nice bay rum and rose scent.  At the end of the day I'm glad that theres plenty of variety out there so that virtually everyone can find something they like.  I'm also glad that my coffee doesn't smell like baloney.

Great post. Many get too emotional when an individual posts something unfavorable regarding scent. Good to see most on DFS understand the subjectivity of both baloney, coffee, and Fahrenheit.

Great posts and glad most can understand and respect others opinions without being emotional about it. Can't imagine people sending nasty emails. I love some coffee scented soaps and got Stirling Vanilla Bean Espresso or Iced Coffee. Can't remember which. I owned both but I think it was the 1st one that when I got it, it smelled rank and I figured a bad batch or something. Others loved it. I was attempting to trade with someone and they said thy wanted it. I explained the problem I had and they insisted they wanted it. i traded but asked him to let me know if it was rank to him when it arrived so I could make it right for him. When he got it he said it smelled amazing and exactly like the one he had already. At that point forward I always understood the subjectivity of scent to people. If someone doesn't like a scent I like, I feel bad for them. If I don't like a scent others do, I'm jealous I'm missing the great scent they are enjoying.

There's certain rules we follow, and we've avoided getting anyone's nose too far out of joint. (pun intended) We are not trying to push boundaries and be "edgy". We're trying to sell product. So, we really try to make quality scents that people will say, "this is one of the best XXXXX type of scent I've experienced." If you try our Sandalwood and say this, we've succeeded. If you love Bay Rum, and you love Island Estate, we've succeeded. You get the idea, repeat throughout the line. So, bottom line, we've done some research and have some good ideas about scents that attract the most number of people and scents that repel them.
