Personally, I hate data entry, but enjoy solutions. This was my best attempt to minimize data entry time and make it easy to track shaves. Long tasks can eat up your life, right?

To be honest, I probably won’t even look at the spreadsheet. The response portion of the Google Form shows neat pie graphs (with percentages attached) giving me any information I need. I forgot that this function existed. I’ll Probably make it to February before falling off this train, much like those New Years gym goers. Some of the talk of most used gear, and other tracking in the hobby had me curious though. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

My job used to entail lugging massive stacks of paperwork everywhere. It was the worst; and when we lost pieces, the headache was unbearable. Google Drive and other “cloud” type services have allowed us to move fully digital. No clutter, no mess, no lost papers. I’ve tried from time to time to keep written journals, but have never been successful. Despite our digital shift at work, I hold the opinion that paper and pen are still king when it comes to writing.

I have great respect for people that know technology well and can solve problems with it. Wish I had the mind for it. I'm sure MANY here will be appreciative of what you did. Don't mind Ken Fluffy if he REALLY wanted to shave like they did 100 years ago he'd only be using Williams soap and a little mirror by his fireplace with a basin of water he drew from his well  Happy2

Some describe their shaving experience as a form of meditation. They use it as a time to pull back from everything and focus on just one small problem. For me, keeping a spreadsheet diary and writing a short note on the day's shave serves the same purpose. I find it relaxing to be able to spend some time on a task that is both highly personal and at the same time wholly insignificant. In other words, it's a fun hobby. I think if it all were really important, something like exercising or managing my diet, I would have lost interest in it a long time ago. But shaving is just a curious addendum to living, a bizarre little footnote to bigger things, so there's no stress, no goals, no major disappointments.

AQU Thanks for the form. I made a copy and was able to customize fairly quickly. I'll try it out this week. I am curious about a couple of things. One, where does the date add? I made an option to add the date, just in case I miss an entry and have to go back. Two, I have to see if a Notes field can be added, as I sometimes like to put notes in on something that happened. Overall, I like it and how fast it makes all those cool charts and what not!!

Hi Eric,

The dates should show up when data is exported to a Google Sheet (Excel style spreadsheet).

To add a spot for notes, just add a short answer or longer answer option. This allows you to type (or use voice to text on your phone) to add notes quickly. Just make sure that box ISN’T mandatory if you only use it from time to time.

Done! I think this will be really easy to use and make trends easy to see as well! Thanks again for sharing it. I hope to report back in a week or two on how it is going.

I am reporting back. I am really liking this method! Fast and easy, and I am learning how to customize it for my preferences. And I added a photo to the main page, which makes it seem more personal to me. Thanks, Tony AQU for making and sharing this form!

Well, January has come and gone and I’ve got about a months worth of shaves recorded.

Here’s how the data is displayed in the “Responses” section:

Or if you switch from Summary to individual survey Question, you can see the actual number of uses recorded.

If you wanted more information, you could always open the spreadsheet.

If anyone would like help getting setup, just message me.
