I think that , by now , every time we read about CRSW we know the quality that is associated it with this artisan brand of shaving soaps. No matter if the line is Premium , Select , Original or Oliva , the top notch quality of their products speaks by themselves

The Select line is superb , both in the ingredients being used as well as the range or scents.

This is a tallow based shaving soap with other quality ingredients like lanolin , Goat Milk , lanolin , Shea Butter , Avocado oil : a combination of pure goodness made soap.

Making lather with it is very easy. Here with a WSP Stubby Silvertip brush (the brush I use the most these days) after loading it for less than 15 seconds :

And here is the lather I obtain after a minute and no water added (wasn't necessary) :

Skin care wise , well , I'm sure you're guessing what I'm going to tell you : but reading the ingredients and seeing the lather , you already know that take care of the skin from the very moment that the lather touches your skin.Very cushiony lather , with a layer of protection which provides a good glide.

But the scent is what I'm focusing the more these days.I have tried plenty of Sandalwood based shaving soaps and creams.Several years ago , when I started using U.K. soaps and creams , the T&H was too. After that , AoS came along with their Sandalwood cream and soap (the cream was made in UK and the soap in Italy) and took over that spot.I wasn't the biggest fan of that scent but it was very good indeed.Actually much better than the Castle Forbes cedar &y Sandalwood , at least for me.

Well , at this talk just to say that this soap smells like a real Sandalwood soap should smell.Actually this is what the traditional U.K. Sandalwood scented soap and creams should smells like : not sweet , not overpowering , not a mixed of other scents with Sandalwood , just a woody , manly , simple but brilliant Sandalwood scent.Thats all.No more and no less.Just pure Sandalwood.

As I said , smells woody and spicy, not sweet like the C&E Sandalwood , not like talc (Geo F Trumper) , not like a more complex scent (AoS or T&H).

For 15.75 $ for 4 oz of soap , excellent Sandalwood scented soap with top notch skin care properties.

With the WSP Sandalwood , a great choice made in USA.

I bought a tub of this back in 2017 as well, but after a few uses sold it last Dec. (2017) to a shave buddy. Well, yesterday I traded back for it as he had only used it a time or two. I had forgotten just how great this soap is.  Blush  It smells very similar to DG Dirtyver, minus the vetiver. I used it today and felt ashamed that I have not bought more of his soap. I had a citrus Select back a few years back and it was stellar. Like the old C&W song, I overlooked an orchid while looking for a rose.  Wink
Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Old review. Sometime last year CRSW reformulated the Select. You can tell the one in the review is an older one because new ones have black lids.

CRSW now gives free shipping so the price is pretty much a wash I would guess.

So how do you tell the difference between the versions and how many versions are there of select? I take it a newer one should have an black lid not just a black label for one thing.
