The Experiment was a success!

I am a big fan of Clubman aftershave products.  They work well with my skin and I like the post shave feel.  As for fragrances, I have tried most of the classics, and a few of the new "distilled spirits" varieties.   I really love the Clubman Classic, Whiskey Woods, Citrus Musk and Brandy Spice.  I have a love/hate relationship with Lilac Vegetal and VIBR.  But, one in particular that I was indifferent about is Classic Vanilla.  I wanted something less citrus and sweeter than the regular classic or Citrus Musk to use in the summer when it is hot.  So I gave Classic Vanilla a try.  I liked it "OK" but it has a sort of weedy (in the Cannabis way)aroma and I really didn't detect much in the way of vanilla.

So I eventually got around to decanting it into glass as I do with most of my Clubman aftershaves:

Well, I am pleased to report that the cannabis aroma is gone and I now detect........vanilla!

I think that this may have benefited from decanting into glass more so than any of my other Clubman aftershaves.

No, the vanilla is very subtle. More like a slight sweetness. It is more floral than anything, but again very subtle. Jasmine, powder and other florals are predominate.

It is not what you would expect from Pinaud.

I've always had Vanilla Culbman as a Staple in my collection. When I just want an aftershave and not a lot of scent it works perfectly. I'm sure I have 6 or 7 Clubman bottles in my cabinet. Just not the Vegital. I don't like the scent at all!

That is a very good description. I am of the school of thought that a gentleman's fragrance should never interfere with a woman's perfume. That is why I abandoned colognes and EDT's when I was young. Classic Vanilla is perfect for when you are going out with a lady and only want a close embrace fragrance. Used that way, longevity is pretty good.

Been using clubman’s for decades,I always leave the cap off a new bottle for say 8 hours, they add something for longevity on the store shelves, the spirit ones, whisky, cognac, rum, gin, don’t need decanting or mellowing with the cap off.Ohhhh just remembered my big bottle of clubman bay rum, when fresh I almost puked, overnight and it’s the same aroma as always.
