Closed Aesop Shaving Bowl

I'd like to buy a Sori Yanagi Aesop stainless steel shaving bowl, partly because of good reviews and partly just to see how it could be any different than a plain old dog water bowl.  Please PM if you have one to sell.

I'm very interested too, in how it would differ from any other metal mixing bowl. If you acquire, please share your experience with it.

Ditto for what kamyon said. This looks interesting - my only experience is with ceramic bowls.

Do you have one GloryUprising? If so, does it seem to lather as effectively as a textured ceramic bowl? It looks fantastic but I'm not sure if the smooth texture will hinder lather generation.

I like it because I can hold it in my left hand while creating a nice lather. It really is a nice looking bowl. I mostly use it with my 24-26mm brushes.

Yes, I have one. I also have textured bowls as well.

I don't think it hinders lather generation in anyway; in fact some soaps work better with the smooth surface as they can get TOO aerated (eg I've always had a terrible time with Mystic Waters in an overly textured bowl, but got fantastic results with the AESOP bowl and/or face lathering).

I think it really depends on the soap and how you like it.

Would I suggest the bowl: yes but only as an add on item. AESOP actually has some pretty nice face care items. As a one and only bowl, I think you can do better for the price.

The bowl is nicely sized and easy to 'palm'; can't say the same for some of my ceramic bowls.....

Textured like a golf ball. Bigger flair out opening so to not be knocking your knuckles/brush against the sides. Flat bottom for running the tips of your brush with relatively steep sides if you want to generate lather with the side bristles. Melamine so you don't have to worry about breaking it and lightweight. Only downside is that it's just barely 'palmable' and I'm a bigger guy at 6'1"

I'm tempted to buy one by itself lol. Aesop face care items are extraordinarily high quality, but they are packed with citrus oils and the like which can cause irritation to extremely sensitive and allergy-prone skin. In any event, the stainless steel bowl would be different from the other two bowls that I have, which are both ceramic and textured.

it actually lather very well with creams.

you can also order the 16mm (a bit bigger) at a cooking store at a much better price, if you use a bigger brush.
