I can reply for hawns on this one and the answer is yes, even the samples have tiny flow restrictors on them. Its a nice bit of attention to detail that I totally appreciate.  As much as I may like the product, I don't want a week's worth pouring out on my hand in one shot!

The historical aspect of your product naming convention ties nicely into the nostalgic sense of what is really a retro activity.

My belief is that this creates greater brand affinity, not less.

Spoken as a former Marcom guy who now spends Marcom dollars vs. creates brands but still. Smile

New flavors look great!

kwsher I saw your SOTD featuring Chatillon Lux Bon Vivant toner - what are your thoughts?

That's actually the AS rather than the toner. I plan on posting a "review" later this weekend but net/net:

I very much like the scent of both the BV and the Gratiot League Square aftershaves. I have the Liguest toner but have not used yet but I also like its scent a great deal.

My only nitpick on the AS is that they seem to have a fairly heavy glycerin/witch hazel content so they don't dry down quite as much as I would like in a splash. Not sticky but definitely tacky face feel- I do have neutral skin so don't need a ton of moisturizing and don't mind a glycerin content similar to a Floid, etc. but do enjoy a drier face feel in a splash as a rule. Particularly as we ram up the temps approaching summer.

I have had some dialogue with Shawn about putting together some custom splash that is very exciting and I plan on circling back this weekend to nail it down which may include reduced emollients as well as possibly some menthol.

I believe that Chatillon Lux brings a very creative set of products and will drive scents in much the same way as some of the more complex soap artisans.

That sounds great - its really dry and cold where I live. We have summers where we never break 85F with overnight lows in the low 40sF (sleeping is nice when its cool) For those reasons I quite like the conditioning feeling that persists from a post shave treatment. I haven't had a chance to try the AS yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Completely agree- I have used some balms occasionally in the past and also on the odd time I need or want a little extra "oomph" will start with witch hazel and finish with AS splash post shave.

Just like the flexibility of a lighter conditioning in the splash so I can regulate.

Nonetheless, I have never had an AS that I would pull out the bottle and sniff like I do with some soaps.

Until now...

in fact, I just got out of a marathon meeting and the Bon Vivant is still going strong. The cool thing is that the scent profile has changed throughout the day- I am really digging where it's at right now Smile

That's cool to hear. Bon Vivant was a dogfight getting it to where I wanted to get it to be. So hearing this is really great. I still only use it occasionally because I spent like a month straight smelling it constantly. Wear a new formula in the day, tinker with it at night. Repeat, repeat, and repeat.

I can see how you might want to step away from the scent for a bit. I sometimes have the same experience when cooking up some meal that takes forever and a ton of work and by the time its on the table eating is the last thing I want to do. Nobody trusts a cook who won't eat their own cooking.

Also watching a special on The Eagles on Netflix (highly recommend it as well as The Wrecking Crew) and the now deceased Glenn Frey was talking about how they lived in a basement apartment underneath Jackson Brown in Echo Park in the early days before the Eagles and how they learned how to write songs by hearing Jackson Brown going about his daily rituals upstairs (while they were trying to sleep in after a night of partying) - the point of the story is that at the time Jackson brown was writing Doctor My Eyes which became a huge hit but Frey got to hear it in bits and pieces every single day for months as Brown would go over and over it in sections until he was happy with it. Apparently Frey couldn't listen to the song he was so sick of it.

hawns , Bon Vivant was worth all the work you put in to it. Thanks,
Mark

Marko That's a really great and, more importantly, extremely accurate analogy. Also, I really need to watch that. I don't care for the Eagles a ton, but I've heard it's just an amazing documentary
