I received this Charcoal Goods DE razor today from AlanH81. It was packed extremely carefully and arrived looking absolutely gorgeous. The razor was sent to Switzerland for engraving and was hand-polished by Alan. It is one of only ten in Brian's first Gen-1 Lvl-1 stainless steel run in May 2017 and seems to be the only one ever mirror-polished. I can hardly wait to try it in my razor rotation.

Hi John, why did you send the razor to Switzerland for engraving? Did you personalise the razor?

What happened to the original handle?

I didn't send it. I just received it and have done nothing to it. The fellow from whom I bought it had sent it there for the engraving, since it was not engraved originally. I had just assumed that the Maze handle was the original one.

Copy that.  I only ask as both original run and second run have Version 1 Bishop handles.  The maze in SS had not been born yet

Original Run 316L, ten hand polished by Brian.  It has a very distinguished underside of top cap and no engraving on base plate, just a tattoo. All 10 have a V1 Bishop.  The value of this razor now stands at the same value of a SS BBS1. One sold for 1350 the moment Brian announced his retirement. No one would alter the original spec of this amazing razor. Unlike the SS BBS1 and Ti BBS1….. only 10 of these fine razors exist.  5 of them are identified and noted here in SOTD archives.  All 10 are Level 1 only, HOWEVER it does not shave like a Level 1.  It’s a much different shave.  I have brass and copper in DC, SB and OC  Gen 1 and Gen 2, level 1 and Level 2.  The original 316L 10 razors are special.  They are uniquely very high in efficiency and the smoothness can’t be mistaken for anything else CG. It’s a special Razor, and now even more special as Brian sips a Manhattan in retirement at a beach somewhere in the Maldives

2nd Run 304L, Gorgeous satin matte finish, very different from what was created after.  It also has a matte 304L Version 1 Bishop.  The unique thing about the second run is the fact they were engraved with the Level 1 identifier AND a tattoo.  Equally gorgeous and equally very hard to find whole.  I’ve been chasing one since 2018.  Sadly many of them were sold off as a broken apart kit

How many 304L in this spec were made by Brian? There is a number, more than 50, less than 500

I hope this helps.  All my intel comes from Brian himself and with his permission, I would be willing to publish our personal emails.

Information like this is very important for the archives here at DFS and vital to preserve the integrity of these fine instruments……especially when the Artisans are no longer with us

Cheers

Yes this is 10 of 316 SS Rob yes bishop handle was orginal on it!!

So before stiring thing up here on DFS accusing me that I sold “fraudulent” CG Razor to John you should have facts first hand!!

Second handle wasn’t bought from WhiskerWhacker your Buddy!!

Headset was alone $500 USD and yes it was polished by Brian sent to Swizerland to match the font Lvl1 by professional Watchmaker that cost me $300 CHF..

So I would ask you to reserve your judgment and be polite about it before throwing things out there on me for no reason!!

Are you saying this CG1 Gen1 Lvl2 is fake too lol maybe you know it all and I also have personal emails by Brian I’m willing to share here as well!!

Well, everyone, as you can probably infer from the comments above, some major questions have been raised what the razor actually is and about its provenance. I have repeatedly asked the seller this evening for photocopies of documents or receipts to prove his claims about it, and he has completely failed to do so, making nonsense arguments about 'confidentiality.' In addition, I asked him politely to be a gentleman and refund my very large payment, and he refused and ranted at me again. Stay tuned.
