Very interested in your thoughts on the original plate and the - plate if you use them. Enjoy your shaves!

Probably start with the + plate. Reading shows Original is .68, (-) is .71, (+) is .88 and (++) is 1.08 but maybe I'll start with the Minus

Razor: Carbon Cx Minus (-) Plate
Blade: Wizamet (1)
Brush: Rubberset 400/Maggards Tuxedo
Soap: Lakewood Soaps Sweet Orange Chili Pepper
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: Terre D'Hermes Splash
Fragrance: Terre D'Hermes EDT

1st outing with the Carbon Razor. VERY well built and close tolerance machined stainless steel razor. Nice balance and feel. Blade hangs over the edges if that's a problem for you (not a concern for me) I used the .71 Minus Plate. Mild smooth shave. I like the narrow head design but I got a lot of audible feedback telling me what you can see is the blade is held further back and not close to the cutting edge. Usually not something I like as I prefer rigid held blade razors. Not getting into a debate on this. I know what works for me. That said I am going in with an open mind and seeing what the results are for me. No blade feel and a smooth shave. Not one of my closer shaves but a good one. Stepping up to the Plus (+) Plate tomorrow which has the .88 gap. Sorry about the poor audio. Chinese auxiliary micophone clearly was a waste and made it worse than just using the devices microphone. Have a great day everyone !!!

Razor: Carbon Cx (+) Plate
Blade: Wizamet (2)
Brush: Rubberset 400/26mm Oumo Badger Fan
Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary
Fragrance: Penhaligon's Endymion Cologne

As I expected I had far more growth than normally this morning. This tells me what I suspected with the .71 Minus (-) Plate marketed as Mild, I got what felt like a close shave but not as close as I can and prefer. The N075 is better in this area for me. Today was with the .88 Plus (+) Plate and what a difference a day makes !! clint64 you NEED this razor......................just kidding  Big Grin  Today the lack of the blade being held closer to the cutting edge was still heard and felt (I expect this on all 4 plates but we"ll see) in the shave but you could tell we were getting the job done. I will say it was a smooth and comfortable shave that got me to the glass smooth skin I long for every shave and I can tell this shave will last me the entire day. While smooth I don't think this is an autopilot razor for me like the Yates is. While smooth and comfortable I could tell that if not giving attention and thought (Hey my mind wonders at times while shaving) to the shave it could bite and hard. That said, it never did and it was a gloriously good shave for the books. I'll probably move on to the 1.08 (++) Plate tomorrow but may come back to visit this plate before being done as long as I don't get distracted---------------------LOOK Squirrel !!!!!!!!!!! LOVE this scent from SV and hope they do a EDP soon but till then one of my favorite's Endymion is a nice player with it. Have a Stupid Fun day everyone !!!

I’ve heard great things about this razor, but mostly about the original and the ++ plate. Don’t over estimate the original! I’m excited to hear your thoughts.

Also, I just cracked open a SV70 soap bar. Great stuff to pair with the soap and AS. SV soap bars last about 6 months for me and I find them moisturizing.

Agree Tony. The original plate is still my favorite.

Thanks Tony, I'll need to pick up one of their bath bars cuz 6 months of use sounds pretty good to me and I love the scent. I am going to double back to the 68 plate after I use the plus plus at some point.

Bath bars is a good strategy Dave, I’ll have to try that as well. No risk of not finishing them.

Razor: Carbon Cx .68 (Original) Plate
Blade: Wizamet (3)
Brush: Sorrentino Cocobolo/Cashmere
Soap: Lakewood Sweet Orange Chili Pepper
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: Nivea Deep Comfort
Fragrance: BVLGARI Aqva Amara

So due to a request I decided to slip in the Original Plate today which is a .68 gap but that is deceiving as this if I understand correctly is the most aggressive plate and has the most blade exposure. I have to be honest that the different plates have come out in a odd order and I feel it's all over the map and very confusing for anyone that is looking to buy one. VERY thankful for the pass a round to try them all. The problem is that blade gap is NOT the only thing to consider but everyone gets fixated on it. This is a perfect example as this .68 gap I imagine has more blade exposure because it had more blade feel for sure over the .88 (+) Plate. Still the wtg and xtg passes were still smooth and comfortable. When it came to the atg pass the flex of the blade was more pronounced and made for a rough feeling pass. This is precisely why I prefer a design where the blade is clamped closer to the cutting edge of the blade. I got an extremely close shave and the face feels great much like yesterdays which yielded a long lasting shave result. Still between this and the .88 (+) Plate I lean towards the (+) Plate for the balance btween comfort and efficiency. On to the (++) 1.08 tomorrow. The 1508.5 of the Sweet Orange Chili Pepper continued today also but back to soap variety/choice tomorrow also. Have a Stupendous day !!

Here's the notes on the gaps from the website:

*Some notes to help you pick your Base Plate:

Original Base Plate - This is our current design configuration. It’s still my personal favorite and has a .68mm with positive blade exposure. This design offers a lot of user control with positive blade exposure. For a milder shave, you can change the angle or “ride the cap” for sensitive parts like the neck. For other areas, you can still have a good amount of efficiency.

- Base Plate(NEW) - This is our newest base plate. If you have sensitive skin, prefer less blade feel, have fine hair or just enjoy a mild shave, this is the one. Head shavers have enjoyed this one. This plate has our least blade exposure and a .71mm blade gap.

+ Base Plate - We reduced the blade exposure and increased the gap to .88mm. This is a nice option if you only shave every 2-3 days, as the larger gap allows for this. Early feedback has been positive for those that prefer less blade exposure, but enjoy the efficiency of a larger gap.

++ Base Plate - This one is for those who like a very efficient option. This plate is still with positive blade exposure, but has less exposure than the + Base Plate. This razor has a larger 1.08mm gap. If you have thick hair and shave every 4-5 days or just like an efficient razor, this would be the one.

Razor: Carbon Cx 1.08 (++) Plate
Blade: Wizamet (4)
Brush: Elite Razor/Manchurian
Soap: Zingari Man The Soloist
AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70
AS 2: CHH Tobacco
Fragrance: Mr. Burberry

4th shave with the Carbon Cx razor, this time with the 1.08 (++) Plate. By far the Goldilocks out of the 4 for me. It was apparent on the 1st pass which caused me to go grab my tablet to do a video of the shave but since it was spur of the moment I didn't feel it came out well or that I articulated things well and it was unfair to Carbon Razor as they deserved better so I trashed it. Bottom line is I like this razor but even this plate doesn't push me to the purchase category. All was well until I went with my atg pass and the lack of arch and clamp close enough to the edge effects the rigidity of the blade for me and therefore the comfort/smoothness of the shave. Do I have kevlar whiskers ? No, but for whatever reason if I don't have a rigidly held blade it is an issue for my atg pass with my stiff whiskers. Not an issue for everyone and so this could be a perfect razor for you. For me I have others that excel in all the areas my beard requires with the Yates 921 "H" Plate standing at the pinnacle for me. That said, this is an extremely well built/machined razor and beautiful as well. If I were to buy one the 1.08 (++) Plate would be the one. I don't see how you could go wrong if you found the right fit for yourself in one of their 4 plates. The company is a solid company producing beautiful tools for our pleasure. I thanks Carbon Razor and DFS for hosting this pass around so I could be informed. I will clean/sanitize and ship to the next participant jbreakfield Have a great day Everyone !!
