I’ve been really busy the last 4-6 months and I keep meaning to start a thread in the shave journal. But ever since I have been able to shave with a Carbon, I couldn’t ask for anything more. I have used them for 99% of my shaves the last 2 years and really enjoy the way Sean operates and does his different releases so I am happy to support him. I’m not sure what else I will need to get though as I have a full arsenal of Carbon razors. I have a second graphite base plate coming in as well with the copper razor sometime in the middle of the week. Maybe I should start a new Carbon thread as a catch all outside of the Carbon passaround thread we had going early in the pandemic. I know not everyone loves them as much as I do but Sean has kept up pretty well with demand in my opinion and I applaud him for trying his best to keep things in stock.

Looking forward to hearing what others will say about your shaves using the copper models. I’m curious how I will like the heft.

I changed the name of the thread. Hopefully we can turn this one into an all encompassing thread. Like Zac says, the carbon is a terrific razor. It’s #1 for me in my den.

So pissed that I missed Copper AGAIN!! I had the ++ in titanium and sold it because it wasn’t giving me good shaves but I hear the copper is much better.

Hey guys, how’s everyone getting along with their new razors? I’ve been using my minus plate copper razor quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. I would say I was probably good on deciding on getting the minus plate because overall, the copper material is pretty damn heft and heavy for me personally. It’s a little funny as I’m pretty strong with my hands but when it comes to shave tools like brushes and razors, I don’t find metal handles or heavier razors to be very maneuverable in my experience. They tend to make my wrist really tired.

Anyways, the overall feel of the copper Carbon is nice, opposite end of the other Carbon razors that are on the lighter side. I was starting off my uses limiting the direction or passes to a north to south pass (fairly mild on my face/beard mapping) as well as across the grain. I figured to hold off at the beginning on doing any against the grain passes as well as trying to figure out the ideal blade. The heavier feel of this razor led me to start with red pack Personna Platinum Chrome which was a very close shave. It felt like after a few uses with that blade, I felt like the smoothness was their for the most part but I want to dial back the sharpness. I then decided to try the Gillette black Winner Platinum and that did seem to be a slightly more comfortable on my skin. It still cuts close enough to give a satisfactory feeling shave without leaving my skin a bit raw. Doubt I’ll be putting a Kai blade in the copper razor.

Anyways, I’ll be getting some more use with my graphite “+” razor over the month and update you with more details. So far, the cleanup passes I have tried while using the graphite have been really nice. It will be interesting to see how I compared the Ti “+” with the graphite webbed version of the “+” over time. Having tried a lot of the different handles in the various materials, I think I have found a couple sweet spots when it comes to weight and balance. Not sure if other have a very particular weight they find to be optimal.

Chat soon and happy shaving

Zach. I have the original base plate - hns my preference is for heavy razors. I find it still pretty light. Lol. Very nice shaver. Looks great doesn't it?
