At the end of the Roman Republic, with civil war raging in the background, a brilliant statesman and military commander emerged. Julius Caesar, one of the most powerful political figures in Roman history, is remembered for his military victory over Rom and an ill-fated dictatorship over a corrupt and unstable republic that ended with an assassination so shocking, we still speak of it today.
