Brush Restores

I apologize if there is already a thread like this out there or if this is in the wrong place. I recently picked up a Made Rite #44 at an antique store. I'd been looking for an interesting vi rage handle and I'd never seen one like this before.

I'm looking have it restored. I've considered doing it myself but I've read that steaming could damage the handle and I'm worried about drilling into the amber portion of the handle and ruining it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this or who to go to?  Also, does anyone know anything about this brush?
