Bob Quinn Elite Razor Appreciation

These dogs are racing greyhounds (retired), I have had 5 of these dogs now on my 6th (Ms Checkers, she's a big girl and was a very good runner, she ran over 3 years. When I went to the kennels to adopt she picked Sharon and myself). There are only 2 dog tracks left in the US which only adopts out their dogs at their tracks. My girl was one of the last dogs off of the last track that sent their dogs out to adoption groups before it closed (leaving 2 remaining tracks in the US). The Photos come from Barbara karants book Greyhounds. Barb years ago had a photo shoot which she then created her book, she used 4 of my dogs which made me a very proud parent. I have used a few of her photos in the past and will use a few of her photos with the Paladin thread/post and this thread.

I love the racing breed I would not adpot a grey that hadn't raced. it’s an exceptional dog (as you see I'm very opinionated about this)

Can never read enough about proud pet parents. 

Have toyed with adopting retired racers, Whippet or Galgo (their treatment is even worse than racing greys).  May yet pull the trigger.

Racing Greys have had a bad rap, there are some that were treated badly including death years ago that was corrected by the raicing industry. Therre are more bad parents that shouldn't have hd children though I understand the world is not perfect. I have never thought of adopting a Wippet that had a coursing career, though Wippets have a simaliar tempurement of Greys, lazy though and a little more energetic who enjoys comfort while being a wonderful companion. Wippets like Grey are not barking dogs (I had one Grey BB Gun - I kept their racing name- who barked once a year and the bark took him a few minutes to get out, he needed 5- 6 times to get a bark out). Also Greys are leaning dogs they like to lean on you leg and love to be petted that way (you don;'t have to bend down to pet them, very convenient and they won's move from that position untill your ready to leave.

As far as Galgos, they are treated badly in spain after the huinting season (they hunt in packs) they are the only dog that is not protected from being killed especially after the hunting season. They are very energetic and are jumpers you would need a 6-7 foot fence to keep them in and safe. lovely dogs that will calm down after 6 monts to a year (depending on age affter hunting) They are a liitle bet larger (50-55 lbs)than Wippets and smaller than racing Greys. 

Right now in the US there are af ew Galgo adoption groups, as for racing greys, some of the racing adoption groups that haven't closed down are bring in dogs from Irland, Europe and Australiia. The cost of these dogs are around $1000. The high cost is because of air fare which runs between $1800 to $2400 per dog.

A side note racing greys, and galgos will not protect your home, if a robber comes in and takes their bed they go with the robber. On the street you have to protect them. Another thing racing greys stay with their mother for 6-8 months before being taken away for training depending on the kennel. and like galgpos they have spent their lifes living with 25-200 dogs for years so they know how to talk dog.
