I made a pre-order. What was the point of pre-ordering?
Great question. And the I think the real subtext you're getting at is "why did I pre-order, give you my money, and wait for months when I could have just ordered after they're in stock anyways?".
The answer is that the pre-orders are the reason there is sufficient inventory for new orders to ship. Pre-orders allowed me the ability to evaluate real demand and scale production accordingly. These razors are very expensive to make and I was unsure of how well they would sell so I would have taken a conservative approach and under-produced. Demand is much higher than I expected and without pre-orders I would have produced less than half as many razors and, based on pre-order demand, they would have sold out in a day. Pre-ordering guarantees you a razor that would have otherwise been in very short supply and also gets you a lower serial number. In return, I get the insight that I'm looking for so I can make appropriate production decisions.
In short, pre-orders means that everybody gets a razor. No pre-orders means that you and all the other would-be pre-orderers would be fighting over a limited number of razors and many of you would have missed out which sucks for all of us.
As it is, we're running low on SB razors already. So we're ramping production up again.
