I would get it. The SB version is far from aggressive imo. Very smooth. I own almost every premium razor out there and the B.B. is in the top 3 if not the top razor period.

Having read a lot of your posts here, I know you have quite an impressive arsenal. If you would, make me a list of what you are comparing the BB to. Please.

I'm not disagreeing with your post at all, just curious.

Yeah no worries. Everyone’s experience is so unique anyways.

I put the blackbird in my top 3. Any of which could be my fave at any given time.

Wolfman
Charcoal level 2
Blackbird SB

Just outside this group would be the 17-4, timeless, att, and british Gillette NEW vintage etc.

This is just for DE.

I have the machined version of the SB and do not feel the blade on my skin at all when I'm shaving. I'm using a mild blade currently (astra sp) so maybe if I stepped it up to like a feather or something known to be more aggressive, it would be a different story..

if I may add my two cents here... I was/am lucky to own almost every premium contemporary DE razor and can confidently say that my BBs first generation (sharper edges) are the most efficient razors that I have ever used. There are a few other efficient razors in my den which come close, but at the expense of a greater degree of irritation:

Paradigm Ti I
CharcoalGoods Lvl3
Weber PH
Wolfman .67 and above

What gap WR1?

We have similar tastes in razors. My favorites are BB either plate, WR1 86SB, Lvl 2. The WR1 80OC and 17-4 are close

The Lvl 2 is an amazing razor. Efficient, blade feel, and smooth. The Lvl 3 gets harsh for me.

The BB and Lvl 2 are auto pilot razors now, even with a Feather. The 86 requires more attention but nothing cuts closer. It's the king in my den.

I'm fortunate to be able to use some really, really nice gear.

You know it’s funny, but so far, I prefer the smaller gapped WR1’s. I current have have 3. One SB and one OC in .61 and just received a .67SB today.

I really like the 17-4. I had a Ti2 but sold it as it was just too mild. I probably get the closest shave, with the least effort with the B.B.

And yes I am super spoiled with all this great gear. Wait until Shane’s AC razor comes out....

I think the WR1 heads actually get smoother with increased gap. I have a 74 and while nice, it just doesn't cut anywhere near as close as the others. I only use it if I've shaved the day before.

I'm going to have to look into the AC. I've not studied it at all. If it's the SE, I'm out. I don't own a SE and prefer not to open that can of worms.
