Thanks Scott! I ended up going with the machined. The polished was already sold out and it was a tough decision between the machined vs black oxide. I honestly don't remember why I ended up choosing the machined but, after this morning's shave, I'm just glad I talked myself into it Smile

Glad to hear it! Sounds like a pretty successful first outing. I'm sure you'll dial it in a bit more and wind up without any nicks. Smile

I'm absolutely counting this as a great first outing! I really felt like i had it dialed in on the first two passes and I have no doubt I'll get that ATG pass down soon. Thanks again!

Congrats on your razor. I'm glad you were able to dial it in so quickly. It took me a few shaves to get it right, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I ordered the OC head since I like the SB so much. I can't try it for a while though since it just arrived yesterday and I'm out of town.

HoosierShave, I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed your first shave with the Blackbird so much! I actually did, too, because its efficiency is addicting from the start, but it took quite a while for me to dial it in to the point where I felt like I was in control of the instrument and not the other way around.

Dayman, from the very recent and little experience that I have so far, I think you will enjoy the open comb version. It’s the same Blackbird goodness in a slightly different form!

Thanks Matsilainen and Dayman ! I'm sure I've still got a ways to go on the learning curve with this one. Even on the first 2 passes, I felt like it was a more aggressive razor and I was getting some blade-feel. But the shave was very smooth and comfortable. More than anything, I'm just looking forward to the journey with this one!

I'm new to this forum, but not new to wet shaving. The Blackbird is one of my two favorite razors. The other is the Above The Tie Atlas R-1. To me they are about equally great shavers. But the Blackbird is by far the more innovative and the more esthetically appealing. Mine is the polished SB model, with the 70 mm handle. Thank you Shane, for a job well done. The Blackbird is very definitely a one of a kind razor.

Gillette Nacet are my favorite with the BB, but actually all blade brands I used so far with my Birdies worked very well.
