Best Vintage Razors?

I like Gillette adjustables. Some of them rare, some not.  To me...the Toggles reign supreme in all Gillettes in beauty.  I have a Standard and a Chrome that are in-use. Both have been serviced and re-plated.  They are works of art.  

My Red Dot Fatboy is interesting to have and I use it as well.  It does not shave 10x better than a $50 Fatboy though.  

Gillette adjustables, I think, are fantastic shavers and the 9 adjustments give me many aggressiveness options...even between passes. If I only had (1) razor, it would be a vintage Gillette adjustable.  Likely the Chrome Toggle, not because it is the most rare but because that head is smoother than any other. I also think it's the best looking.

Another vintage 2-piece razor that I own is an Eclipse Red Ring.  It is just sexy as hell.  Very nice piece.  I've heard it is a great shaver but I've yet to use it.

I have a vintage Apollo 3-piece razor that I like to use.  It is mild, yet efficient. Great shaver.

The Gillette Toggle in any finish or config and then the rest of the Gillette Adjustables from the Fatboy to the slims.

I haven't really gotten along with any of the vintage Gillettes I've tried. I much prefer the SEs in the vintage arena with the GEM Pushbutton and Ever Ready 1924 Shovelhead at the top of the list.

I get really great shaves with my GEM MMOC, Fat Boy and Black Beauty - surprisingly though, I only get OK shaves with the Slim Adjustable. The injector razors also give great shaves, once you've got the technique down

I've also had great shaves with the Rotbart Mond-Extra - it provided me with one of my 1st BBS/no irritation shaves

The Gillette Tech and the legendary Schick Krona. I do probably 90% of my shaving with a Tech and the rest with a Krona & sometimes a PAA Prismatic tossed into the mix. I had a large vintage Gillette collection, but I sold them as I like the Tech above all. Out of all the Tech models I think the best head design is the modern one as made in China & India as it has a thinner head cap and it shaves the smoothest.

Favorite Vintage Gem: Damaskeene (and also the winner against modern Gems too).

Favorite Vintage DE: Stahly but last night I got my first Gillette Fat Handle Tech (pre-war triangles slots) so my journey continues onward.  I also enjoy the shave from my Shake Sharps.  I find myself being more indecisive among my DE collection.

Most of the modern DE razors being made today are riffs on the Gillette Tech - excellent design.

Rather obviously the answer to the OP question is no, there is no consensus.

My "best" (will mean different things to everyone) is my Shake Sharp v1.0. Runner ups are Apollo and Gibbs adjustables and Gibbs 14, Star DE, '31 Wardonia, Schick Krona, Cooper three-piece. No Gillette has ever landed in my top five though my Single Ring, New Improved and Techs I'll hang on to.

I only have one non-vintage being the 37C, but that is a repop of the original. That is to say, all I use is vintage. Aside from the unobtanium, I have owned or own most of them.

I would say there are 4 design types, promulgated and repackaged through the years that consistently raise to the top as the best.
The Flaretip superpeeds. The heads are basically the same from the regular superspeed, Lady Gillette, red/blue/black tips, etc.
The 3 piece Old Types, the the Techs. Like Marko said, Techs are the most copied razor for a reason. Solid units that are effective and last and last with minimal care.
Single edges like the pushbutton/G-bar, and MMOC (hate it!). Simple, effective, and with the right blade from Gem @ Connaught, they will be around forever.
And the injector. Adjustable or not, you can thank them for ushering in the Trac II. The Schick Type E sets the gold standard for performance here.

So I dont want to point to a particular razor or class of razors as being the best because these head designs stayed almost the same even though the model #s and handles may change. But I think it was these 3-4 designs and types carried shaving as the leading types from 1905 to the 1980s when the Trac II virtually killed DE, SE, and injector razors.
