Best Best Badger

I am a huge fan of Simpsons brushes. I love their Manchurian and 2-band brushes, but I have always been especially fond of the quality of their best badger hair.  In fact I would go on the record as saying that I don't see the advantage of Simpsons super compared to their best badger.

Because of the quality of Simpsons best badger, I have never tried any other "best" graded badger.  Is anyone here in a position to compare Simpsons best with others.  Which, in your mind is the best best badger?

Simpson's best badger is a completely different animal compared to the common best badger grade you see from other makers. Aside from Simpson making their knots significantly denser than most other manufacturers, their best badger is hand sorted, significantly less scritchy, and just generally much higher quality than normal best badger grade.

Now the super badger from simpson is seems denser, more backbone, and less scritch than the best badger. Now it's going to be just a matter of preference if you like the super over the best. Very subjective.

I think you will be disappointed in other manufacturers best badger once you try them.

David hit the nail on the head, as far as "best" there is Simpsons and then there is all the others. If you like Simpsons you won't like any other "best" grade out there.

Simpson has, IMO some of the best "non-artisan" badger hair brushes on the market! We just received our US Federal Wildlife importation permit and will be carrying a few of their brushes in the very near future. I have used them for years and as stated above by other users, they are of great quality, in all of the mentioned aspects.

Hi David.  I agree about Simpson being a cut above many artisans, but I would also conclude that other larger producers are as well.  For example, Shavemac, Wiborg, Rooney and Semogue also seems to have higher quality badger hair than most artisans.  Someone like M&F may be an exception, but he was a Rooney-oid.  I see the artisans generally focusing on the handles since they cannot seem to acquire the best badger hair. Personally, I find this particular form of artisanship less than satisfying.

I would agree with Teddyboy, they all make excellent brushes. However I am more of a Shavemac fanatic. My only complaint about Simpson, and it seems you just have to get lucky with one, I can't get mine to stop shedding. I've had it over a year now and I still must loose 5-10 hairs a shave. Other than that I definitely like Simpson, excellent brushes.
