Hi All.  I have been away for several years and was wondering what are considered the best tallow-containing soaps.  Some of my favorite soap companies went out of business.

Are Mike's Natural and Cold River still considered top notch? I suppose Barrister and Mann are up there.  Anything I really, really should try.

Mike's is/was my top tallow soap and now if I am not using a veggie soap, I like how Ethos soaps work for my skin.

I consider Mike the OG of today's offerings. Mike's Natural Soaps was my very first artesianal soap purchase and it still punches above its weight in today's highly competitive soap market. CRSW is also fantastic, it's a pity you don't see much posted on the sotd's that often.
Honorable mentions go to Stirling, Mystic Water Soaps & Eufros.

Few wrong choices, if any, with modern artisanal soaps

Ethos any formula and , Ariana and Evans k or k2 formula are my top 2 for slickness and post shave

Barrister and Mann , wholly kaw, grooming dept, noble otter, declaration grooming( though I’ve never found a scent I like). All great soaps with excellent performance.

Tallow and Steel is top notch  Happy2

I just shaved with Mystic Water. It’s still up there with the best.

There’s a lot more top notch soaps to choose from now.

While I’ve had some stability issues of late, the GD tallow based I have are excellent. Only problem is they’re usually one off releases never to be seen again.

Wholly Kaw- Siero Base
Declaration Grooming- Milksteak Base
Spearhead- 20.1 Base
B&M- Omnibus Base- I haven’t used it but it’s supposed to be an improvement on an already Top Tier Base

I know you stated Top Tallow Soap Bases, but I have to mention Zingari Man’s Vegan Base. For years I had never used a Vegan Soap base that could hold a candle to my top Tallow Soaps. That is not the case anymore. Zingari Man’s Vegan base is every bit as good as my very best Tallow Soaps. It’s exceptional in every metric. Do yourself a favor and get a sample.

Thank you all for some solid choices to consider. As for Mystic Water, I tried on and off for a few years to get a decent lather, but for some reason it just did not take. However, I have not tried the newer version with EDTA in it. Has the addition of EDTA made a difference for anyone?

The newer version is still not the easiest formula to get a consistent and easy lather but that's just my experience. I can use it but compared other brands and formulas, it's not my preferred tallow soap. It doesn't mean I'm not a fan of her shave soaps or that I won't use them but there is more user friendly options.

I had trouble lathering Mystic Water soap too at the beginning but I kept at it and watched a couple of YouTube videos on lathering technique for MW soap and now it’s not an issue. Load lots and add small amounts of water frequently and be patient. It starts out looking like poor lather then it hits the point where it just explodes into a rich thick lather. I haven’t tried any of MW’s new formula. I didn’t even know there was one.
