So I just recently got the bbs1 razor, only had 1 shave with it, feels very nice but seems to me it has quite a small sweet spot for the right angle. And at times can feel quite aggressive while at other times quite smooth, just wondering if anyone has advice on what they find the best angel to be and if you agree the sweet spot is very small. Also what blades do you recommend using, I tried a permasharp but wasn't working well at all so switched to a Gillette platinum which felt better. Would appreciate any advice from those who have a lot of experience using this razor thanks

Feathers work great for me in it. Definitely give them a shot.

Have also heard Timors work well in it. Will be testing that out soon.

Ok will try the feather blades thanks for the recommendation, Never heard of Timors blades let me know how you find it once you have used it. Any thoughts on the right angle or if you also find the right cutting angel is very small ?

DanLaw is the expert on Timors and he can chime in. I have found the razor to have a fairly intuitive angle. More blade forward than the wr2. To me its kind of a wr1/wr2 hybrid.

Ok look forward to Dan comments, fare enough I think with more shaves hopefully finding the right angle and maintaining it will become easier, iv heard many people speak very highly of the bbs1 so I'm hoping I will grow to love it, it's really a beautiful razor

If wanting my take, having owned one forever it seems (bear in mind have highly damaged and sensative skin):

1, find it shaves best (by far) riding the cap as though life is dependent

2, never considered it but being a WR1/2 hybrid is an accurate description

3, find Feathers unbearable in this razor. Have come to rely upon corked and stropped Timors for best shave followed by Personna Israeli Reds (again corked and stropped)

4, my favourite DEs are Tatara Nodachi Ti using corked and stropped Astras followed by Wolfman vintage WR1 custom 0,54 DC which is lovely using Timors corked and stropped

Thanks so much for the advice Dan, very interesting to hear you recommend to ride the cap I will definitely give this a try.
Also interesting to hear you speak about corking and stropping the blades do you do this with all de blades ? And how do you go about doing it for example how many times do you cork it and strap it ?
I'm trying to buy these timor blades but I see there not easily available online or on ebay. Are these German blades and is the full name for them Giesen & Forsthoff Timor Safety Razor Blades ?

Run each edge twice across a synthetic wine cork then strop 20 times on each edge along inside of forearm. Do this before each usage

Where are you located?

Oh wow so you do this with every DE blade before you use it ? How many shaves do you normally get out of each blade ? Currently I only use the blade once then throw it away. Is there any reason why it has to be synthetic cork ?
I am located in UK

Blade life differs with blade brand/model: Timors yield 4 3 pass shaves for me but know others getting 10+/Personna Israeli Reds yield 6 shaves for me but know others getting 15.

Find synthetic corks to be more robust and dense delivering a better chance of deburring and smoothing the cutting edge.
