Not sure where this belongs but just received this notice from John...

Hello,

This is just to let you know that the BBS-1 is no longer being produced. I realize that some of you have been waiting quite some time for one of these razors, but after a long discussion with James, the machinist who has singlehandedly produced all of these razors, we have decided to bring production to an end.

James will still be producing razors, but mass production of the BBS-1 has become unfeasible going forward, as James wants to take the time to develop new products and new designs, and needs the time to do the research and development, which he cannot do while making the same product over and over.

His work is available at https://wolfmanrazors.com/ and he will be producing small quantities of different razors on his own time and schedule, at which point he will be putting them up for sale. (He will not be doing a waitlist at this time, as the management thereof is very time consuming, and takes time he needs to spend developing new product.)

I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment, and I am grateful for the enthusiasm regarding this razor.

Thank you,

John Brown

Don, thanks for posting this. Very disappointing news for many, I’m sure. The BBS-1 has already been very close to what is commonly referred to as “unobtainium,”, and I can only imagine what the future holds for the existing razors…

I moved the thread into the Safety Razors section, as I thought that would be the most appropriate place for it.

I’m sad to see this as the BBS-1 is my favorite Razor. I’m sure many other people would have felt the same way if they had the opportunity to use it. It will be interesting to see what James has planned for the future, hopefully increased production to better meet demand. Time will tell.

Just saw this email in my inbox, and was sorry to see this. I'm not one to second guess James, but it seems to me that he could move a boat load of the BBS-1s if he was able to devote some time to make them, and they could probably command a premium price, over and above what he charges for a stainless Wolfman.

No doubt the price for one now will rise to astronomical heights. I know it is a popular razor with some, but I tried one that was loaned to me by a friend and found it not to be a whole lot better on my face, with my blades and my technique, than my current $50-100 razor heads. I was offered a BBS-1 in trade for one of my best Rooney Finest brushes and turned it down, and unlike some times in the past, I have no buyer/trader remorse at all. As always, YMMV, and what for some is a desirable "unobtainium" is for others a "not-even-wantium."

I was loaned one and got five shaves in. I preferred the Wolfman SB. But it’s an heirloom now.

It was good but in no way rises above a Timeless shave and, imo, didn’t even touch the magical shaves I am getting from the Blackbird SB.

Too much hype with Wolfman offerings.

I've never tried a BBS-1 or a Wolfman. But I am curious, since they are made by the same person, are the two razors very similar? If there are differences, is it in design or functionality?

I never knew that the BBS-1 was mass produced.
