That’s great news!  I will patiently await the results.

Yes Andrew and I have been discussing bay rum of late. I’m happy to have another convert to the cult. In my experience artisans take a lot of persuasion to step into bay rum. I’m not sure why, I mean shaving and bay rum go together like, well, like shaving and bay rum!  If it’s any consolation, a well known artisan once told me that his bay rum was his top seller. It was Will Carius who told me that. It was a few years ago so I don’t know if it still holds. My point is, just make it. What’s the worst that can happen?

Marko if you know anything about me then you know and  Andrew will back me up. I play it anything but safe and love taking things out to left field and experimenting. I do have a case of OCD so if I’m going to make one I’ll build it from the ground up and of course use all naturals and then start to play of the base using other essentials etc to make at least a couple variations.

I’ll keep you updated.

Bulls eye! If there's one thing that's been lacking in all the bay rums I've tried, it's a deep, well charred, smoky note. That shouldn't take center stage, though.

My ideal bay rum smells mostly of good and abundant pimenta racemosa oil, a tiny drop of citrus, and as far as the law and good sense allow, sweet rum. At the bottom and around the edges there should be some wispy wooden notes, and of course some smoke.

Somebody would do well to mimic Derby Chop Shop as a shoulder scent. Suspect could justify more cost given uniqueness and bourbon perception of value

As much as love bay rum, doubt it can command a premium given ubiquity and perception as the signature peasant scent. Again, love it but truth told....

I’d say it’s time to transform those old biases. If anyone can do that it’s Dragonsbeard

If soap makers would just stop using that ubiquitous, off the shelf blend it might help. What the heck is that stuff anyway and who makes it? They should stop it and be ashamed of themselves. That awful bay rum lime that the uninspired think is good enough so that they can have a bay rum in their lineup. Seriously, if that’s the amount of effort they’re going to put into their bay rum scent then I assume it’s the same unimpressive level of effort they put into everything. That scent blend has damaged people’s perception of bay rum immeasurably. If that’s all a person has ever smelled then it’s no wonder they  don’t care for bay rum scents.

I’m excited about Frank taking up the challenge to create a bay rum because it’s obvious that he is very particular and  obsesses over the details and whatever he comes up with will be special. Behind every worthwhile achievement is a person or persons obsessed with their own vision of success.

End of rant
