Oops, sorry I didn't know - that scent profile looks incredible. Is there any possibility you might release that one again? Or a different bay inspired creation?

That would be cool. I've never been to Nashville, I made it as far as Cape Girardeau, MO a few years back but we never did drive further on down the road to Nashville.

I've been wanting to try Chiseled Face's Bay Rum shaving soap for a while now and as luck would have it I found a tub on my shelf in the basement. I think I bought it last fall and must have forgotten about it. Thats a definite sign of too much soap. In any case I lathered it up yesterday and its got a really good base, nice and slick, great lather. No complaints about the base (its all about the bass right?) Now the scent was another story. It says its a blend of Jamaican rum, Bay leaf and bergamot - what I get off the puck and in the lather is a very mild, muddy scent that I can't be sure that I'm picking up any of the ingredients. Now its possibly just me and my nose, which I've learned doesn't necessarily perceive scents the way other noses might or it might be that CF intentionally made it very mild because a lot of people don't like bay rum. News flash - people that don't like bay rum won't buy it if it says bay rum on the label.

I've looked at some reviews like this one https://dailylather.com/content/sotd-january-26-2018 but when I read about overwhelming hits of ginger and other strong scents it makes me wonder if I got a dud. Yes, if I strain I can pick up a hint of rummy vanilla but no ginger and almost no bay. Its really too bad because this one seemed to have potential. Is it me? I don't know but I know that I can smell the other Bay Rums that Daily Lather refers to in the review and the fact that we both love Chatillon Lux Blackbery Blossom Bay tells me we're not too far apart as far as taste in bay rum goes.

Does anybody else have this soap? What are your thoughts on it? I think it would be a great soap if CF kicked up the bay rum a notch or five.

I wonder if long shipping transits in possibly too hot or too cold conditions might affect the scent? I buy a lot from Top of The Chain so product would have to get from point of origin in the US to Toronto area in Canada then all the way out west to where I live in Calgary Alberta - that would be a few hundred miles north of the western part of Montana for reference. Its got to be a possibility I'm thinking because this seems to happen if not frequently at least regularly.

Sometimes scents are deceiving in a tub. Only real way to tell now is to get the aftershave!! CF splashes are highly underrated IMHO. Quite nourishing and great lasting stink!! Although I have read the bay rum is not as long lasting...

insomniHack , I just ordered the CF Bay Rum aftershave from Top of The Chain - I agree with you that the scent is often muted on the soap and the AS is the only way to truly get the scent and judge it on its merits. I also order the Murphy & MacNeil Bay Rum soap. This will be the first Murhpy&MacNeil for me so we'll see whats up with it. They have an aftershave as well but I figured I'd see what I get off the soap before I get the aftershave.

It has been a while, but IIRC the Chiseled Face Bay Rum was an okay scent for me, but not a stellar one.  I hasten to add that I am not a scent connoisseur.  I only know what I like.  That said, I really like the Stirling Bay Rum scent.  It is nice in the jar, better on the face, and IMO divine if you let your jar dry out uncovered.  As to the bases, I can shave quite well enough with either, although Chiseled Face works better for me.

I wonder about climate too, although in Virginia, the concern is more often about heat.  I guess we all have our cross to bear.

I like Stirling's Bay Rum as well. I used the splash this past week, great scent and a burn that rivals Captain's Choice Cat O'Nine Tails.

I'm the same way, I like what I like. I can distinguish different notes in a fragrance some times but I prefer to just enjoy (or not) the overall scent rather than pick through it.

If I was told I could only have one soap and one splash - I would go with Bay Rum.

I really like Phoenix Artisans Atomic Bay Rum soap. I like pretty much all of the Bay Rum splashes out there but am always willing to try something new.

You and me both, brother. I started this thread in part to sing the praises of Bay Rum and give people a place to post and discuss bay rum but also to try to encourage those artisans who do not yet have a bay rum in their lineup to step out and give it a go. What have they got to lose?

I am impressed by PAA's commitment to Bay Rum. Most soap and/or aftershave makers have a Bay Rum in their lineup but PAA has several and they're all different while retaining their bay rum-ness.
