I also tried MacDuffs prairie rum runner aftershave.  while not a straight bay rum, it smells pretty damn good to me and has impressive staying power, thus far.  I'm still dealing with a sinus cold so my sense of smell isn't 100%, but here I am almost 4 hours after applying the aftershave and can clearly still smell it and my face is soft & supple - I can tell a product was applied on my lower neck when I touch it.

Marko, you'll probably like the latter stuff mentioned above....and it's a Canadian company!

I picked up the PRR soap and splash a couple of weeks back.  I like it and I'm liking it more every time I use it.  I agree that its not a straight up Bay Rum but it is still excellent and it is in the family of bay rums I think.  I've been really impressed with Sean's offerings at MacDuff's.  His v4 soap base is legit and he's been finding his stride as far as the scent blending side is concerned.  In addition to Prairie Rum Runner I've recently acquired Birch+ Root, Almond Biscotti, Coast to Coast and Autumn Cabin.  Theyre all excellent, especially Autumn Cabin.

Regarding the note you smell in the No Quarter Bay Rum, while I haven't sampled that one I think I know the scent note youre referring to.  Its the one that makes you think, damn, that scent note again, the one I don't really care for and seems to turn up far too often.  That scent note.  I think it might be somebodies idea of lime in bay rum.  It doesn't turn up in straight up bay rums like Captain's Choice or Krampert's Finest but I could list off a dozen or so that have it.  If I want to smell like bay rum and lime I'll splash on some straight lime after the straight bay rum.  There. Done, Bay rum and lime, nothing else.

Here is what I posted on Prairie Rum Runner on the MacDuff merchant thread

and, for good measure I also tried MacDuff's Prairie Rum Runner. Excellent. Now if you're a Bay Rum fan (freak?) like myself, don't expect to get a full on in your face super potent bay rum. No, this one is a very nice, subtle and complex scent that was probably worn by a very sophisticated, suave and stylish rum runner. Obviously with a higher class clientele Big Grin Its a really nice scent. I had to order a full size of this one from Top of The Chain as Sean is sold out of it for the time being and Carmine has just started carrying MacDuff at Top of The Chain. It all works out. I may be wrong but I think you can still get MacDuff Bay Rum in the v3 soap base at a discount. I have that one too and its very nice.

I just saw a bay rum on Top if the Chain I haven’t seen before, Murphy and MacNeil/ Bull and Bell series Bay Rum. Has anyone tried it?  Is it any good? Does it compare to any existing bay rums? They say it’s a fresh take on a classic scent. I’ve heard that before only to get the same old thing that andrewjs18 described above. Any feedback on this bay rum is appreciated.

The DR Harris bay rum is a nice, more sophisticated take on bay rum.  I like it a lot.  St. Johns is close to that I think.  A very nice bay rum

Well, I got my hands on a St John's sample (which the company has on its website) and I do like it.  It is definitely close the DR Harris -- perhaps a touch more clove-like and just a bit more aggressive, unlike the DRH which is almost  refined, or as you said, sophisticated.  However, the St John's unlike the DRH, lasts.  The DRH scent disappears almost immediately.  Today used it AND the DR Harris and was quite content.  Still experimenting though: have some PAA samples on their way

I've found that most bay rums do not have staying power.

3rd time wearing MacDuffs PRR this week...

Well, between the St John's and the DR Harris, the St John's has a lot more staying power.  Not as much as other scents, but at least some.  The DRH had none (for me).

So that MacDuffs.....  Obviously you're liking it.  A question about it before I pull a trigger:  the description makes it sound as if it might be sweet smelling.  Is it?  Is it "perfumey"? or floral?  One of the reasons I think I like the bay rums I've now liked is that they aren't particularly floral or sweet (or smell like a perfumed cologne) -- for instance, I found the BM bay rum to have too much sweet rum and vanilla and orange (and perhaps pepper) and not enough bay notes, eucalyptus, clove.  So curious as to perhaps a fuller description......thx

I agree with you that the St. Johns lasts much longer than the DRH.  Its too bad that some o the best are only fleeting.  You will like the PAA bay rums - which ones did you get?  The only one I don't like is the Boomtown Bay Rum because of the leather note - its too strong for me.  I'm not a leather guy but if its used it should be very lightly as far as I'm concerned.  I like the rest though including Pineapple Bay Rum, Coconut Bay I like but its a little light on the bay.  Atomic is great as well as the original and the seasonals are also excellent, Blue Samhain, Space Nog and I think Atomic Pumpkin is a bay rum as well.  I managed to get a hold of a set of The Shaving last year that was limited*.  Pretty interesting stuff.  I would recommend staying away from Diver Down - not a bay rum at all.  I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the PAAs when you get them.

* The Shaving is a play on The Shining - Ray Rum not Red Rum. I'm not sure who Ray is.

Went with:  Boomtown Bay Rum, Coconut Bay, and Atomic Age Bay Rum.  Didn't realize there were all that many more.  Will try them next week and respond. Thx.
