Any sent impressions on Chypre? Anybody?

Right now I'm strolling through the Taiga, even though I'm really cleaning the basement. Good stuff, Will! It's a perfect winter scent.

We're actually hoping to make it permanent if people like it enough. It's my personal favorite of the Latha line. Smile

I am really mad at Barrister & Mann right now. This new soap base, code named "Glissant", is unreal. It is so unreal that I'm not sure I can keep leading the LathaMan Army. I really want to use the new Taiga scented Latha, but I'm going to have to use Le Grand Chypre again tomorrow.

Amazing combination of extreme slickness while maintaining great cushion. This soap base will be adored by the aggressive razor lovers as well as the straight users. The scent is too complex for me to describe with any authority and accuracy. However, to me it starts out with a sharp citrus blast that then blends with some darker elements like frankincense and patchouli, while then almost immediately rounding the corner into a slight floral. Such amazing balance between so many different types of scents. It all blends in my nose to form something awe inspiring.

I will definitely enjoy this soap while AWOL from the LathaMan Army. Taiga will keep calling my name and I know I will succumb (happily) pretty soon. But for now I will bask in this truly grand creation.

beardybrewer, this may be helpful. Smile

It's unlike any other shave soap scent I've tried. Really great. But understated. The first hit is citrus. Lime but more complex. What I get next is a beautiful pine. There's no pine listed; I assume it's a combination of the labdanum and frankincense, but it's distinctly pine to me. Beyond that, there's a lot of complexity. Hints of fruitiness, some earthiness, some wood. It's dynamic, shifting as you lather and shave with it. But like I said, understated, restrained, elegant. Good stuff.

Thanks for the impressions so far. How strong is the floral component? Is it more or less than Rhapsody?

i Beardybrewer, I sense that you're apprehensive about the floral-ness of LGC, I don't think you have anything to worry about. While I haven't yet received my LGC soap which I ordered from B&M directly, I have received the LGC Tonique which I ordered from Italian Barber. Alcohol based aftershaves can't cross the border for some reason but Will has been great in developing his Canadian vendor network. So I have had a good whiff of the tonique and the floral component is very subtle to the point of you wouldn't know it was there if you hadn't read the description. Its complex, both light and dark at the same time, I think its among Will's best work.

Hi Will, thank goodness you still had some Latha Taiga left at B&M.com, I split my last order between you and Italian Barber so as to get the LGC Tonique.  I got the IB order a few days ago and then your order today but no Taiga in either order!  I checked my order history at both sites and I had neglected to order it!  How did that happen!?  IB was sold out but B&M to the rescue - I ordered it and a few other goodies just now.  My wife likes the Velvet leg cream so I'm going to see if she might try the soap.  She's expressed her views quite clearly on the subject of trying the DE safety razor so I'm not going there but there's no reason she can't use superior lather and cream now is there. I have a cunning plan......Smile
Thanks,
Mark

Whew, that could have been bad! We're hoping to continue making Taiga for awhile, though, since it seems to be pretty well received. No splash for you, Mark? Smile

Thanks! And thanks to all who have placed orders with us so far. We're always thrilled to hear from people who like our products!
