Will, I was wondering if Leviathan will continue on past this year. It's taken me a little to get on board but I really enjoy it. I wonder if others feel the same way.

Doesn't quite interfere with our marketing, since there's still a certain flair here. Big Grin I wrote that copy for the retailers to use in their pre-orders, so it's of no major concern.
I like the idea of revealing a new scent note every day until the release. Even if we already have a general idea of the whole, seeing just one note a day somehow helps it sink in a little better. Smile

Hmm...intriguing.

It will. Leviathan is the one seasonal that I would never discontinue.

This is excellent news. The beast lives on!

I seem to recall that Leviathan, Hallows and Nocturne were all released more or lease in the same time period - please correct me if I'm wrong - while obviously not identical soaps they're riffing on a similar, dark theme. Will, do you have any thoughts why Hallow went off like rocket, Leviathan was a slow burn and Nocturne sort of quietly went away. Is it the names? Is it the scents? Is it just the promotional pitch at the outset?? Who can explain human behaviour, I enjoy all three of those but I wouldn't necessarily differentiate them as strongly as the market seems to have done.

Thanks,
Mark

I think that's sort of a mischaracterization of how it happened. Leviathan didn't really do a slow burn thing; it was already very popular by the end of its first production run. Nocturne was also very popular; Leviathan was just more so, and, to quote Highlander, there could be only one.

Hallows was the product of a lot of things. Its first production run was extremely limited, and the concept was one that resonated with people very strongly. The skulls (and their increasing level of grit and gore) also got people interested, since there wasn't really anything else like that on the market until late last year. Combined with the fact that we just never seemed to be able to make enough of it, the whole thing blended together into a perfect storm of popularity and mystique that was, honestly, quite accidental.

Sorry for the mischaracterization, things always look different from differing perspectives and then of course there's the memory thing Big Grin I'm struggling with the graphic image of Nocturne losing its head and the ensuing quickening....very cool. I like Nocturne and the name is pretty cool too. Maybe it comes back from the dead at some point in a slightly more cadaverous incarnation...cue maniacal laughter with organ fugue in background.

The reason I posed the question in the first place is because I'm curious, as I'm sure you are too as to what will become popular and why. The psychology of marketing. Obviously skulls seem to inhabit some mysteriously attractive place in the human psyche. Mythical beasts do too but for some reason giant bugs don't cut it and I suspect anything relating to spiders would be equally unpopular.

Its refreshing to know that some things, like Hallows, just happen spontaneously.
Thanks

Leviathan grows on you, in my experience. I've said this before, but it warrants re-stating. When I first used Leviathan, I was a little repulsed as was my wife. However, after smelling it all day, I ended up liking it. The next time I used it, I liked it right off the bat. It's now easily one of my favorite fragrances, and my wife shares my sentiment. Will has an interesting and enjoyable explanation regarding the fragrance. Someone attributed the 180 degree take I had on the fragrance succinctly stating my "nose received an education".

As a shallow fickle consumer, I admit I am both shallow and fickle. I am attracted to and brought in by labeling and packaging. The fragrance and performance is what keeps me. If you release a product with a cool label, there's a good chance I will purchase it once.
