Hey Will, good job on The Hallows.  I missed out this year due to confusion (mine) on 12am vs 12pm - I had it in my calendar that I needed to go in at 10am MST today.  Oh well, I still have some left from last year's batch.  

You might want to consider limiting buyers to only one of the limited edition products, while some people buy for three generations of family which is understandable as gifts but the more likely multi purchaser is going to flip for profit.  I've experienced this with Jordan limited edition retro sneakers. Its impossible to get them from the vendors when they release limited editions but they show up the same day on ebay for a healthy markup.  The flippers use bots  (which I don't understand) and you just can't beat them to the purchase and they buy multiple pairs at once.  

I sure hope that the shaving soap community doesn't go that way because it just makes the whole thing unpleasant.

I'm glad I was able to get one. I have seen a lot of flak directed at B&M's direction over the speed at which it sold out. Geez, people need to give their head a shake. The size of the production run was clear, so it should come as no surprise that getting a tub wasn't a guarantee. I understand the disappointment if you missed out, but not the vitriol.

Great success- I missed out also but better luck next time. Love to see these instances of wild success, particularly for the stand up vendors who do so much to support the community.

I hadn't thought about Bots....that would be shitty. I've often wondered if there could be a pay in advance option so that the production run could be scaled appropriately.

Yep, Wonderbalm will resume production in November. This new product is indeed designed to fight irritation and ingrown hairs, as opposed to Wonderbalm which is designed to fight windburn and protect the skin from cold. Smile

I use Wonderbalm before my winter runs. It keeps the face happy when it's below freezing and windy. Love it.

I scanned some of the other boards and I think the vitriol (mild at best) is not aimed at the rapid sell out but at the technical issues that resulted in people being told it was unavailable when it was available.  That would be frustrating knowing you got there in time but still couldn't get it because of technical glitches.  

Further to my post above, a recurring theme I'm seeing on other boards is people expressing joy at getting their soap and a backup as well, i.e., multiple units per buyer.  I guess, whatever, its a free country but given the amount of shaving product that people who frequent these boards have, at least I assume they have if they're anything like me (lifetime supply++) then do they really need a backup?  Seriously, get in buy one and leave some of the very limited supply for someone else.  You're just going to hoard it anyway.  If I sound bitter, I'm not because as I mentioned before, I still have about 1/2 tub of last years hallows.  Its a cool product with a unique scent which, if you've smelled it, isn't everybody's cup of tea.  I think the limited nature of it plus the very cool new label leads people to acquire it to have it and they may not actually use it much.  Its a great soap/scent to have in your rotation but it is not an everyday kind of thing.

In summary, if you manage to get through on the website for limited edition releases, don't buy all of the product just because you can.  Buy one and move on leaving some for the next guy.  Nobody likes the guy ahead of them in the buffet line who takes all the shrimp.

But the shrimp buffet gets restocked when it runs out.

I didn't buy and had no plan to, but here's my take on it. There was no limit on ordering and if you fall in love with a single run soap, people may want to ensure they have a backup . If they don't like it, they know they can sell it for what they paid or sometimes more.

The business is not at fault for sell outs, it's what they want and easier to ship if people buy multiples, so don't see them putting a cap on limits.

Many of us think of this as a community, but not everyone. So if you pass one over hoping to allow a forum buddy to get one, the next guy behind you in the order cue, may buy 6 and eBay 5 of them.

It happens and will always happen, no matter how tight knit we all think the forums are. People are looking out for themselves, always have, always will. I've been screwed over by people I thought would never screw anyone over, so won't let it happen again. If I was going to order, I'd have ordered 2-3 as well, just in case. If I didn't like I'd probably seek out a few people I knew wanted it but didn't get and give them a crack at it.

All evidence has been buried, all tapes have been erased.

All good points Marko...I didn't realize there were technical issues with the site. I agree that a one-per-customer policy wouldn't be a bad thing.

I actually tried a one-per-customer policy last year. People completely ignored it. Undecided Unfortunately, at least for the time being, I have no way to enforce a hard limit of one-per. I know next-to-nothing about programming or scripting, so I can't write a plugin for Shopify myself, and no such plugin exists otherwise. I could commission one, but it would probably be very expensive (custom work, no matter how much or how little effort is involved, is almost always very expensive).

The technical glitch was, unfortunately, completely unforeseeable. Shopify is a big system and should have been able to handle that kind of influx without blinking. I've sent them a support ticket to make them aware of the problem and make sure it doesn't happen again, but people are ticked at me about it (which I can understand). As I said to my mother last night, sometimes you can do everything right and still have disasters. Sad
