Barbaros Razors
Turkey
(This post was last modified: 03-09-2017, 01:19 PM by theunnamed.)
Hello Gentlemen,

My name is Hasan and I'm the creator of the Barbaros Razors. I have been wetshaving for 4 years and started wetshaving as a hobbyist like many of you. I tried many safety razors including Vintage Double Edge, Single Edge, also Straight Razors and Shavettes. I find them from flea markets or auction sites. The inability to get new safety razors from Turkey was a problem since there are a couple of cheap, plastic/pot metal razors available here. I just thought that i can make a new one and started this journey.

I find creating new things interesting. Before I start designing the razor, I have laid hands on different kinds of projects. I tried making brush handles, straight razor scales, nickel platings etc. Whenever I get a good result, the happiness I feel is invaluable. I really like doing these kinds of stuff. Although I have the experince in wetshaving and safety razors, I didn't have any skills for CAD design. I had spent some time with 3D Max when I was in college, drawing wheel rims, bathroom sinks etc. but thats all.

3D printing has made this trial and error learning easy. I made a preliminary drawing in FreeCAD, printed, used and evaluated it many times and i finally made the desing that i find good. I had a couple of sets printed and send them to my friends to hear their opinions. Then i had the current design.

Anyway, my first razor Barbaros TR-1 was out last year with a limited quantity (120 pcs). Had serious issues with them as you probably read from somewhere else about the surface quality and polishing.

The hardest part is finding a reliable CNC machining shop and a real good polisher. I couldn't find them both at first. I'm still struggling in finding the CNC but found the polisher when i looked at the mirror one day Smile I didn't like the results of the previous polishing shops works and decided to make this on my own. I do polishing in my spare time after my regular work and this polishing thing is really taking time. I sometimes spend 30 mins only for a handle. But as its very time consuming, im planning to move towards sand blasting.

I'm currently working on different projects such as the Adjustable (I made in collaboration with Murat from Rocnel) and GEMInjector, a se razor which will use both GEM and Injector blades. I will be releasing TR-2 which is the successor (revised version) of the TR-1 very soon.

What has changed in TR-2 ? Actually nothing noteworthy changed, The biggest change is that the blade slots. I changed them with round pins, I think thats better.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask here, via PM, contact form at my website or email to info@barbarosrazors.com

Here are some shots from my current works.

Hasan, I'm a big fan of Barbaros and Rocnel! I own the adjustable, which I love, and several of the Rocnel razors. Are you going to offer the TR2 in a brushed version as well as polished? I tried to purchase the TR1, but you discontinued the brushed version of it early on so I never purchased it. Love the designs coming out of both Barbaros and Rocnel and glad you are both offering your products through Phil at Bullgoose.

TR2 looks great. I can't wait to see more pictures.

I love the TR1.

The new Kaylon handle is nice. You're making other handles too correct? Interested to see them too.

Keep up the good work Hasan!
Shave yourself.

Thank you Todd, I have another handle coming. I’m planning to offer the handles separately too. I will share picture of it when its out.

Sweet! That is the first image I've seen of a modern razor that accepts GEM blades. I'd definitely be interested in that. When do you think those might be available? Also curious about how it can use injector blades too. SharpSpine, what do you think?

What are the lengths of the handles that you will be offering?

It will take a while, I just got the prototype with a slight problem. The posts for the injector was faulty so i will be able to use it only with GEM blade. The first shave will be on Sunday night.

Looks a lot like the Rocnel SE that uses half of a DE blade. I'd like to know if a GEM blade will fit with the spine on, or if the spine needs to be removed.

Yes is does look like the Rocnel "SE". I'm trying to wrap my head around how the blade is loaded. Does it slide in from the side maybe? It doesn't look like the head flips open like a traditional GEM razor.
