All noses are different, lol. It smells really good, but it's no Beaudelaire. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be, I know that. Beau is probably my favorite scent in all of wetshaving though. I can only smell the Mousse de Saxe note in Vespers if I take a really deep sniff. With Beau and Lavanille it smacks you in the face. Vespers off the top is bright and green with the cranberry and fir while the other notes, including the MdS, blend really well to form the base. I can definitely pick up the Fougère accord and sandalwood in the background too. All around a very nice crisp, clean scent that is very appropriate for the holiday season. Will hit the nail on the head as far as that goes. I'm curious to see how the scent develops when lathered. I should've grabbed an aftershave sample too.

Man, I hope it is like that to my nose!!!  Heart

I'm a big Beaudelaire fan too. Did you ever get the original Fougere Imperiale and Aromatique? If you like Beaudelaire I think you'd like those ones also.

Unfortunately never had the pleasure of experiencing the original fougeres. I hear they, or at least one of them, may be making a comeback in some form or another. I'll definitely be checking that out if and when it happens.

That would be a good thing. Right now I'm torn between using up the soap (and enjoying every moment) or rationing it in a most miserly fashion (no enjoyment there). Barrister and Mann has made many excellent soaps but some stand out above the rest and I'd put both Aromatique and Imperiale in that category. Its welcome news to hear that even one of them may make a return run.

Got my samples today and one thing greatly saddened me: that their new Reserve soap Waves is not Excelsior based. Damn but Waves smells fantastic!! Smile The Vespers is as most here described, but it's not a scent I would buy a tub of. Too "festive" for daily usage IMO. The Waves AS smells to me very similar to the great Boss Baldessarini cologne upon initial whiff and application, but dries down to a different beautiful aquatic scent. Waves is the gem here, boys. Wink

I'm only two shaves in but at this point at least, I love Vespers.  Ease of lathering and protection are top shelf, and BPman will hopefully forgive me if I love the scent too.  Post seems very good, although it may be a while before I use Vespers for enough consecutive shaves to get a better idea.  As it is, I started out with samples of Vespers Soap and AS, and I now have two tubs of the soap, plus a bottle each of AS and EDT in the pipeline.

Kudos to B&M!

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. It's just that the scent of this one is not an everyday sort of thing. Not to say that it is not a superb blend of fragrances mind you, just that I can only handle so much holiday type scent. Angel When he intros this base in other scents....

The problem with all reviews like this is that’s how he rates it for his particular face. We all know soaps can and do work quite differently from person to person. Some of his reviews I agree with...others just leave me scratching my head about his conclusions. That’s not his fault...or any lack of objectivity. It’s that soaps are very YMMV...Personally, I find dfoulk.reviews much more in synch with my own experiences.
