Goopy? No, WK is not goopy. Overkill? Yes, for my skin, the balm is usually overkill. When my skin is dry (rarely), or if the shave was irritating, a pea-sized amount of the balm works great! Otherwise, the toner is usually all I need.

Thanks. I've been on the fence about getting the WK balm in part because I've been struggling to understand the difference between the balm and toner.

Toner is liquid, balm can run the gamut of consistency between "milk" (like Nivea) and salve such as Chatillon Lux.

You can't go wrong with Chatillon Lux Skin Salves

Shawn used to make them in all the scents that he had in his line up so if you're looking for a particular scent I'm sure you could find it on the BST.

To be clear, most days I don’t use ANY balm. The WK Toner is usually all I need. When I do need a balm, WK’s works great. I see this as a matter of using the right tool for the job.

I may try it on my hands this Winter even when my face doesn’t need it.

the CL salve, at least in the older formulas, for me, can get tacky/sticky in the warmer months.

My favorites are the aftershave balms from Truffit & Hill. Outstanding! Not too heavy but very moisturizing and protective. Fast absorption. I particularly like their 1805 and West Indian Limes scents.

Eleven Shaving.

Better than the Antica Barbieria Colla (ABC) balms for me.

The ones I use the most are Stirling and Black Tie Razor Company and both come in an unscented version, which is what I use. A little goes a long way with these two and for my skin I usually use a bit less than pea size. That amount absorbs into my skin easily and my face feels moisturized without feeling oily.

Another vote for Eleven balm. This is the best I’ve found. Absorbs completely, moisturizing, no sticky or tacky aftermath. Used it in the warmer months as well. Does not feel heavy.
