Are clean shaven guys in the minority?

Hi Guys...I am new to the forum & curious what your thoughts are. I have been wet shaving daily my entire life. Never had any desire for growing facial hair. I have noticed so many men in tv ads & shows all sporting a few days growth of facial. I just don’t see many guys( mostly younger) making the effort to clean up. Ever notice how few shaving commercials there are today. I grew up watching Gillette ads, aftershave ads for skin bracer & Aqua Velva,etc..

Agreed. I defy anyone to cite to a commercial where the dude is clean-shaven. Beards have become ubiquitous.

I did grow a beard then and again, my thinking was that you do look manlier that way. Also was dealing with lots of irritation on my neck along cartridges high cost.

Not anymore since a lot of grey came out...lol!!!!!!

Also now DE cost for one side, took away the cost excuse, and on the other, too many stuff to go thru, that need to shave to try them all.

Clean shaven everyday now. Go figure.

I believe there is some sociological work suggesting it's cyclical.

obviously the current trend fashion wise is informality and stubble is typically seen as a primary indicator of that.

When did clean shaven go out of style? Um, never.  

Ha, Good Grooming standards are the minority these days to say the least. Women like a couple days stubble for sure.  Beards make a person look older, that’s going to happen anyway so why speed the process? I see guys at the Barber Shop and they look great when their beard is groomed and lined up, however when they walked into the shop I was looking for their cup to toss a couple bucks in, thought dude was homeless.  Idk, mostly beards “to me” say; I’m lazy. 

I just asked Siri how she likes her man and who knows better than her or Alexa; Siri said:

“From a dating perspective, you're likely better off with a clean-shaven face than with a beard. Women have been shown to find clean shaven men the most attractive. You may gain more respect from men for your thick beard, but it's unlikely to get you any more dates.”

I prefer being clean shaven but I often go days without shaving since I'm staying put for now. But when working or going out I prefer to be clean-shaven. More now than ever since I wear a 3m mask at work.

The stubble thing started in what, the early 1990s? From what I could see, it was just a way for some guys to be lazy and claim is was cool instead of scruffy. Over the last several years, beards have been the big in thing. IMHO, clean shaven or a well-groomed beard or mustache is fine, but being slovenly looks, well slovenly. Most of my friends, family and coworkers are either clean shaven or have beards. The stubble and "skid row" look seem to no longer be popular. Guys want to look sharp nowadays.

You're right now that I think of it, there are few, if any, shaving ads. Then again, I don't watch network TV much since broadcast became 99% commercials and 1% program.

I've grown a winter beard a few times over the years but in my opinion its more hassle than shaving, at least if you want a well trimmed, clean and well shaped beard.  It can look sophisticated an all that but it definitely makes you look older especially as the grey and white hair replaces the dark hair.  The trend that a lot off guys are following now I think is based more in saving time in the morning (yes laziness) and there are some bad beards out there.  Whether its just poorly maintained or the guy just can't pull it off because of patchy, thin growth patterns there are not that many righteous beards out there.  A guy wanting to grow a beard would do well if he were to ask his barber about growing and trimming for optimal appearance.  I grew up in the 60s and 70s and beards at that time meant you were either hiding something (James Harden) or you were a hippie.   Or your name was Mr. French and you were a butler.

The problem of shaving (many think) is time.
Those who start wetshaving have technique problems.
But few understand how difficult, expensive and dispersive is to maintain a beautiful beard.
As well as impossible for those who are not genetically gifted.
Most seem untreated.
