Antique Store Fountain Pen Fine

My wife and I were in northeast Vermont with a guest of ours. She likes flea markets so we spent the weekend visiting those, consignment shops and antique stores.

I found a Sheaffer's Snorkel pen. Internet research shows it was made between 1952 and 1958 and is the "Clipper" model. It has a "Triumph" tubular nib of palladium/silver and is a "fine".




The most interesting part is the snorkel. I tube that extends from the nib reservoir by turning the finial or end cap.



Once the snorkel is extended you pull on the finial to extend the vacuum filling piston.


You insert just the snorkel into the ink and push the finial in to fill the pen. This is a drawing of how it should work.

The nib stays clean and spotless. Nothing to wipe - no mess - no fuss.

This pen is working fine so far. I have it sitting around and change it's position periodically. I want to be sure it does not leak.

I did write with it and it is a pleasure. Smooth as glass. I like it a lot. This is a writing sample.


ML picked up a crystal inkwell. The lid is brass.


Quite often the brass is corroded due to the acidic ink of the day. This was not to bad.


It has grooves to hold your pen.


I also picked up 2 razors and an Old Spice drink/coffeemug.

Excellent finds, Phil. I have a couple of Snorkles but don't really use them much. I should pull one out soon.

Very nice! I love fountain pens, though haven't had much luck with them. I'm left handed and have issues with most pens.
