Gents,

I am loving the Filarmonica 14s...what can you guys tell me about the Sub Cero!?  I haven’t used on yet, but this should arrive early next week!

Thanks my friend!  I was going to wait to shave until it arrives next week.  However, I think that I just cracked the code with what I have, and put a screaming edge on the Otto Deutsch.

So perhaps I will use that tomorrow, because I need to know how the honing process went, and then I will wait for the Sub Cero...it will probably arrive Tues or Wed the way the post has been going.  Strange times we are living through!

Have a great weekend!

You could be very happy, since what you received looks better than seller's photo.
Excellent condition, use it in good health. Smile

Nice. You find any differences between Fili models?
I have a 13 and a 14 so tangerine to grapefruit ... I like them quite a bit.

Thanks gents!

Yes...I was very very happy!  The razor certainly was better than the sellers photos, and her assessment that it had never been used rings true...I believe it based off of its appearance.  I think tonight was the first time it had ever touched a stone.

As far as differences between models...there are the 12s, 13, and 14s for sizes...then there are the different models...Doble Temple, Especial, Sub Cero, Novodur...different generations...ones marked with JMP while he was living (high quality)...ones without the patriarchs name which were produced after his death (supposedly lower quality).

As far as how they shave, I don’t know.  I only have three 14s.

I have a first generation 14 in pristine condition, with a blank face, and it is has a Salamanca stamp on the back.  Nobody can tell me what exactly that means, and nobody has chimed in and said they have seen this before.  One gentleman on another forum suggested that perhaps the Salamanca Curlery Company (Spanish business still around today) got ahold of it, made it an extra hollow ground, and put their name on the back of the tang.  This razor is one of the best most enjoyable blades I have ever used!

Then I have a 1st Generation 14 Especial which had a rough life...it was shortened to a cutting edge of 2.9 inches, and measures at 7/8.  There is also some discoloration/oxidation.  No active rust, and it’s a sublime shaver!

The sub cero in the picture arrived today, and I will likely use it tomorrow for its first use ever.

That’s all I know...I just started getting into the Filarmonica razors.
