I've been using alum for years. I use an alum block that's meant as a deodorant for that purpose and an Osma alum block after every shave. I just used up my deodorant block and have an extra unopened Osma block. Can the Osma be used as deodorant? Are deodorant alum blocks and those meant for post shave exactly the same thing?

Mmm...sort of. They both have the same uses, but in fact are not the same. Ammonium alum is synthetically made in a lab (cheaper) whereas potassium alum is mined out of the ground. It is said that the ammonium stuff is harsher on your skin.

True Story. Fwiw I used potassium Alum for both. I don't even bother with the ammonium alum.

I'd recommend two different bars, lest your face may start smelling like your pits
