I'm looking at getting a made to order Gillette TTO from Razor Emporium.

I've found I really enjoy the way the two I have shave, a 500 Rocket HD, and a 40's Super Speed.

I'm mostly looking at a late 40's Aristocrat, mostly based on how well the SS shaves for me, and that I find them to be beautiful.

Still, if I wanted a slightly more efficient shave would I gain anything going for a Red Tip or Slim?

Thanks, and hope this isn't another can of worms thread.

You can’t go wrong with a slim adjustable.

If you don’t want an adjustable, then Gillette perfected the SS type with the Red tip, it’s a heavier razor. The Red tip is a 7 to 9 on the slim adjustable setting.

If your happy with the shave you get with the SS then an adjustable may not be what you want. Red Tip will give you a more efficient shave.

I toggle back and forth because it’s a personal choice. I have the super adjustable because I need to change the settings for different parts of my face. If you don’t have that problem with the areas of your face then a Red Tip will be a better fit in the Super Speed models. Now either the slim or red tip are not overly aggressive.

I prefer slightly more aggressive razors normally, but My late 40's Aristocrat is probably the smoothest razor in my collection, I get a better shave than my Gillette adjustables on 9 because I can touch up all day without irritation, but you can't go wrong with the adjustables either. I know it sounds like c bit of a cop out but get one that is replated and flawless and find a good shave grade of the other for an affordable price, I don't think you'd be unhappy with either

My 30’s open comb aristocrat is smooth for me.

Thanks guys, no doubt there's no loosing choices here. It's the insane smoothness yet efficiency of these razors that has me wanting more.

I guess now it's just looking for the sweet spot on where the smoothness breaks down.

Of course, in the long run the answer is get 'em all. But right now, I'm limited to one choice, that I can pick up while visiting home in the states next month.

Just have to choose, more aggressive or more smooth. I'm definitely of the school that smoother gives a closer shave as well, because of the touch up business.

Living on the edge
The UK made Red Tip Superspeed is a real sleeper.
It outshines a good many high end razors....super efficient and smoothness that is very close to being nirvana.
If the house caught fire and I could only take one, this is the one I'd pick.

A brand new NOS one sold for about 190 pounds recently.

One of the few Gillette razors I haven't tried. I'd love to try an open comb aristocrat also.

I tried a Rocket - HD - and wasn't that impressed. Thought it was too heavy a shaver.

The #15 on the other hand is splendid.
