I am curious about how mild the ATT M base plate is.  Is it as mild as a Muhle R89 or a Merkur 34C?

I'd be interested in any other comparisons of the M base plate and ATT's mid-aggressive base plate.

Just FYI, I use my Mergress between 2-3 and my Fatboy at 4-5.

Thanks for your comments.

Ted

I have the M1 base plate on a Atlas handle.

Honestly, I think it's more medium then mild.

Probably the same level of aggression as the Wolfman and Weber razor.

It's a step above then Edwin Jegger E89.

The hairs under my chin is always hard to get shave off. The ATT is one of the few razors I have that can knock them off without having the go back and trying over and over again.

Agree, I have the m2 and I would say it isn't that mild, however it is quite efficient and smooth during the shave. Very capable of being a daily driver and still delivering very close shaves.

I agree that the M1 and M2 ATT razor plates are a good step above mild. Definitely not aggressive but not mild. I am very easily able to bloody myself up with the M2 head and only slightly less able with the M1 head. A beautiful finish on the ATT for sure.

I would agree also that the M plate isn't exactly mild compared to other "mild" razors: Tech, Super Speed, Krona, Shavecraft 101 etc.... It is fairly comfortable, and smooth, but calling it mild is maybe a bit misleading, IMO.

Thanks for info on the M. I was considering it, especially since ATT has a prototype aluminum version circulating with the -1 and -2 heads. Too early to say if this will go into production or not.

Just to follow up, I obtained an ATT M2 open comb, which is the mildest head. Very, very nice. More aggressive than a Weber or R89, but very efficient. Thank you all for the feedback.

I am a little confused regarding some of the above answers. First of all I have a five piece Kronos closed comb set. The base plates on the closed comb sets are numbered as follows; H1, R1 ands M1. The open comb sets are numbered H2, R2 and M2. The "1" designation is closed and the "2" is open. Obviously, "H" is the most aggressive, while the "M" is the mildest. I regularly use the "R" plate but have used all three at one time or other. I also own a Muhle R89 and in my opinion the Muhle is not comparable to a "M" plate but is like an "R" plate. Or am I not understanding the above.

interesting to me because i find the m plates to be about the same as a ej89 while the weber is a bit more. to me the r plates are a bit more aggressive then the ej89 and just a hair so then the weber. while the h plates are for sure a bit more agressive but still easily usable
