I took off to the Oregon Coast for my birthday. Of course you know I must stop at the local antique shops. After two days of fruitless searching shops catering to tourists I decide it's time to make my way back north. As I drive, I pass a house with a carved wooden sign that says antiques. I turn around, pull into the yard. It is filled with old gas station and automotive type signs. I start to question the truth of the antique sign as there is nothing to indicate items being sold or that it is even a shop. A flannel-wearing, grey-bearded gentleman steps from a Boler-type camper asking if I needed any help. I ask if this is an antique shop and are they open. He walks to the house to get the proprietor (another flannel-wearing, grey-bearded gentleman) who comes out and takes me into the shop. It is filled with all types of vintage automotive supplies. He spends about 30 minutes telling me about his collection and lets me know I should stop by a place 3 miles down the road that has some nice things. He throws in that if I need a place to stay the campers are $45/night.
I make my way down the road to the suggested shop and walk in. As I look around, I notice it in sitting the corner of a display case. I could not contain the excitement for the prize I beheld. Not only is it cased but it is a NOS Gillette Adjustable "Toggle" Chrome that now belongs to me. What is even better is that the space owner there, allowing me to negotiate a price considerably better than the sticker price. She then makes the fatal mistake of telling me she has had it for 2 yrs.
