Yesterday was extremely stressful. Sitting at work, I got a call from my neighbor at about 1:00pm; "Fair warning, it's raining in your living room, so you're gonna have a mess when you get home"...

It seems my landlord hired some very unskilled labor to set up all our swamp coolers this year, and Einstein failed to ensure all water feed lines were connected before turning on the water.

My living room became a rain forest in short time...

I took the afternoon off to clean and assess and throw away. After 6 hours of said cleaning, assessing, and throwing away, I decided it was time for a shave.

I let my mind wander over the stress of the event, became distracted, and was forcefully reminded that shaving with a straight requires focus:

This is the second time I've received a stern warning to pay attention. Last time was about a year ago. I don't really want it to be annual...

Don't shave your head when you hit crap on your mind...

Ugh. Sorry you had such an awful day. I hope said landlord is covering losses. And that your wound heals nicely.

Sorry to hear about the mess and hope everything works out. Wondering minds and straight razors don't mix. I made a similar mistake a couple months ago under my nose.

I have two scars on my face that remind me daily to pay attention! Straight razors are very jealous and want your full attention, heal quickly Chris, and I hope the inconvenience of a flooded living room passes quickly and inexpensively.

Any way you look at it, what happened sucks.

Your unfortunate event reminds me of a friend of mine. His new employer purchased a pod, somewhat like an ocean container, to serve as their data center. It was so poorly designed that part of the cooling is over the top of the servers. They'll get backed up, at which point there will be showers all over the servers in there.

Why can't people just say that they don't know what they are doing when that is obviously the case?

Bummer and double bummer! What can I say but ... this too shall pass!
I think the lesson here is that we all need a second relaxing hobby that doesn't involve sharp edges...  Rolleyes

Well, to be perfectly honest, things could have been a LOT worse. The landlord and my neighbor were both here, and as soon as they noticed water dripping from a place it shouldn't be, they went in and turned it off. The water that did leak went through the light fixtures, primarily, which means there is really only limited damaged to the drywall and ceiling, as well as the design fact that light fixtures are in the middle of the rom, and my electronics were not. My neighbor opened my front door, and made sure that the photographs of my daughter, the tv/laptop, and the RC electronics were dry and out of harm's way.

I lost some books that are increasingly difficult to find, since the authors are dead, and it sucks but relatively inexpensive, both financially and emotionally. The bulk of my "library" was unscathed, my furniture and carpet are already dried out, living room is put back together, and there is only minor cleaning and rearranging left to do.

My landlord gave me 50% off my rent for the month, which is always a bonus, and my boss gave me today off to get things squared away.

I can't really complain at this point. It could have been a LOT worse for me and the landlord both. I mean, I could realistically be living out of a hotel room right now, with no possessions to my name, if the leak hadn't been caught and stopped quickly. My l;oiving room could have ended up in the carport below if people of intelligence hadn't been around...

Thanks, all, for the kind words! I think tonight will be a DE shave, though...lol
