I may be in a minority...but.I found MdC to be a sub-par performer - for my skin anyway - in terms of protection and comfort. I’m sure you’ll make a superior product. How they justify that high price has always been a mystery to me.

I agree with you on this.  With Martin de Candre it's an excellent lathering soap and a tub lasts just about forever.  I do like their scents quite a bit as well but it seriously lacks in post shave.  What I find when I use it is that I always seem to get a really nice close shave.  Not the most comfortable or soothing shave but a really nice end result.

Price wise it seems steep but a lot of that is shipping cost.  Even at this price when you consider a tub will likely last you about a year of shaves the cost per shave goes way down making it cheaper to buy one tub of Martin de Candre at $60 including shipping than many others.

It's kinda like shopping at Costco.  I walk out of the place $300 lighter and wonder what the hell I bought but on a positive note I don't have to buy laundry soap for a year.

I actually bought some in France. Cheaper? Yes. Worth it even at this price? No...for all the reasons you gave...which has been my experience as well. Life is too short for shaves which aren’t fantastic from start to finish..especially with the options we have now..YMMV...

Interestingly, many US artisan soap makers started and continue to sell their interpretation of the base. There is a super long thread on a soap making forum where the base is discussed extensively.

My version will be 170g(6oz) for $23.00 first scent is will be Citrus Smile

I’m in! When do you see this happening?

Weighing ingredients for a test batch in 20 minutes Smile I'll keep you posted.

Will this be triple milled hard like MDC or will it be the consistency of the soaps you currently make?

I wish I had extruding and milling machines Smile But it'll be a little bit harder than my soaps.

Just asking...but...what would happen if you added some type of fat, milk or tallow to it as well?

It will change the lather, I want this base to be as close as possible to what I'm paying hommage to Smile

As someone who lives in Canada, I think it's amazing that you guys have something like this put together.
Is there a link for the B&B passaround?
Logistically, being a participant wouldn't work, but there's a local artisan who's been really creating a buzz as of late, amongst the members of the Canadian Wetshavers FB group. I think it would be great to try and get some placed into the rotation.

As for GD soaps, where would everyone rank the Primus base, compared to the others? (Mallard, Lusso, Janus, Donkey Base, Limited)

I just love the fact that we get to hear from the actual artisan soap makers on this site. That isn't so in other places.
