First question is regarding the Thater 4125 series. Are they only made in 2-band or do they also make 4125's in 3-band hair?

Second question is really me asking for a recommendation from those that own or have owned a Shavemac 2-band fan. I was hoping to get an idea of what a good loft would be for a 26mm fan that will be primarily used for face lathering. Would it be the standard 2/1 so a loft of 52mm?

Thanks for any help guys!

Dave, in regards to the Thaters, they do make them available in both 2 and 3 band. Here is one vendor who has them available (shipping situation to the US I am not sure of). These apparently are going to be paid for through the vendor, then made at the Thater factory and then shipped. This way you get a currently produced brush instead of getting stock of unknown date.

In regards, to Shavemac, how much backbone would you prefer in a fan? If you want more backbone, are you asking for "unique" density on the Silvertip 2 Band or have you thought of D01-2 Band? And have you watched Avnish (Nishy) videos on yt? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYMK4YFSgoc

I have a couple Shavemac two band fans and I found 25mm knot with 48mm loft is the way to go. The knots run a little bigger, so it's like a 26mm knot and the loft might be +/-  1-2mm. My preference is good back bone and moderate density and the specification above hit the mark. The density is greater than a two band Thater but less than a Chubby or M&F. The flow through is great too. It takes about two weeks to receive a brush once you order it from Shavemac. I understand Bernd is easy to deal with but I've only used their configurator to build my brushes.

As for Thater, they do make 3 band brushes. Maggards and Straight Razor Designs has some available. I think Royal Shave may carry them too.

Yes, they are available in 3 band. I owned the 4125-2 in 3 band and bought it from Shaving.ie. I don't think you will find a better price than they offer, but they run out of stock on some models for a while. I just checked and they have the 4125-3 for $128. See link below. For some reason they remove any product that is out of stock, thus preventing customers from realizing they offer many products. At present, their inventory on Thaters is very low, but they do have a few 2 bands and the 28mm 3 band in stock.

As you can see I have 7 ShaveMacs.  All 2 band, fan shape and silvertip.  Bernd actually makes custom brushes to your specs both knot size and loft.  Four of my brushes are silvertip and three are silvertip D01.  The D01 hair has a stiff backbone and can be scratchy.  My beehive is 25X48 and is the stiffest of them all.  If you prefer the D01, 26mm would be a good choice and at least a 50mm loft.  Even my non D01 brushes have high lofts.  They work for me.
