Here is the real question...

Do the hard-milled pucks have a longer shelf life than the soft artisan soaps we all use and love today?

My guess is that a hard puck of Yardley or Old Spice will last exponentially longer than a soft tub of B&M or BWW...

I'm leaving a box of soaps in the place we discussed earlier.

We'll get to the bottom of this one way or another. Watch out for Biff and whatever you do, avoid your future self. The consequences of that could be disastrous!

All kidding aside, I wonder if artisan soaps like B&M, Tallow + Steel, Stirling, Dapper Dragon, etc. just wouldn't firm up over the years as, perhaps, some form of evaporation takes place.  Then, as someone tries to use it, the wet brush would reconstitute it.  Just a thought.

I recall reading a post about creams that have expired, it dried up but with a little water and mixing it was good as new. I suppose the same thing can apply to croaps or softer soaps or perhaps they would turn into hard soaps like MdC.

Almost certainly. Triple milled soaps are crushed under tremendous force (65 tons, as reported by Signor Valobra). MdC is not triple-milled, no, but contains so much coconut oil that it lasts a fair bit anyway.

I've read everything I can find, which is not much, about the shelf life of the of shaving croaps, creams, soaps, etc...

The best I could gather is that you'll have a plenty long shelf life unless some of the ingredients are ones that go rancid, like avacado. 'Plenty long' doesn't mean forever like the vintage pucks, though would be a long time.

What I read said that anything should be good for two years. I also read that other than ingredients that will go rancid, the big deal is keeping bacteria out of the soap. The two main areas are water from places that may have questionable water and fingers. In my case, I shave after taking a shower or washing my face with soap and water, so my hands are clean and I don't worry about that.

I need to bust out the Lentheric for an official shave, only test lathered it once and it was awesome lather. I have only shaved with Yardley once and liked it. The OG P.160 Morbid and Duro got sold.
