1981Eagle's macro photography - part 2

As I said in my last macro post, reversing the lens produces a rather shallow, flat depth of field.   As long as you are photographing something that is 2-dimensional, that is great, but even then, you really need to control the focus.  You also lose all auto-focus by doing this.   So I wanted a fine focus rail.  

5/8 Aluminum 6063 was the material and I made everything except the nut & bolts, the induction hardened rails, the linear bearings and the acme threaded rod.   Please enjoy







Well - I couldn't leave it in raw aluminum and I didn't want to send it out ... and working with chemicals and electricity is within my comfort zone - so after a little research, I made up an aluminum anodizing kit. 



It isn't perfect, but it is better than raw aluminum and it will do!
