Everything that was mentioned in the original video was still available at my local Sally's Beauty Supply. It wasn't all that expensive. I think these were all together less than $20. I will give it a go sometime soon.

I have some Roux packets and some 40 developer en route. Super cheap online. The videos made the process very clear and an inexpensive little side project to work on would be fun. I have some old brushes that I’ve shelved that I will work on I’ll be sure to post up the results. Thanks for putting this info out there for us to enjoy. I always fell into the camp that for my face gel tips always worked better...but it was always a crapshoot as to what a knot would develop into.

Go with a heat gun at a 2-3 ft distance.

I can successfully say that this method and tutorial has worked on two different knots so far. I was conservative on my length of time I allowed the product to stay on the hair probably around 8 min of total contact time or so... both times there was an immediate difference in appearance and feel. I didn’t want to overshoot and damage a knot but both knots are much closer to where I wanted them to be. I’ll do a few hand lather and dry cycles over the next few days and put them to use during a shave and report back.

Zac....
Have you given this a go yet? I respect the opinions of the GENTS HERE who have.  I ask because I’ve gone into Sally’s with your images and they have all this product.  I would love to see your results.

Hi ExtraProtein , I have not but I will probably use try sometime soon. I have the badger knot that I want to do this on and I need to use it in a shave first to see what the level of scritch is and then can trying to soften it. I have stayed busy with weekend projects but will bump this up on my priority list to get it done sooner rather than later.

Thank you to all who posted here their instructions and experience! I have a DG B9A installed in a Prometheus handle. The tips were to rough for my taste that I was  once even planning to sell the brush. I followed the instructions (though I used L'Oréal equivalents of the components) and now this brush is absolutely awesome and is one of the jewels of my brush collection.

An excellent point! I did indeed and I cannot be happier! I just finished softening a couple of M&Fs from the Sears/Sabini collaboration. In addition to becoming much softer on my face, the color contrast on all three brushes is now much greater, which increases their aesthetic value for me.

I once owned a 3XL that I miraculously managed to purchase directly from Lee many years ago. I sold it for a now unknown reason and regretted selling it until very recently. After turning my B9A in to B9A+ the regret is no more. The hair quality in my newly improved brush feels (according to my memory) indistinguishable from that of the old-timer - the tips are soft but not slimy with zero prickling; the knot has a very healthy and springy backbone, but without an overwhelming scrubbing sensations. And the brush looks GORGEOUS!
