I like watching these videos. I see some that make bad recommendations, yet I still gain something from what they have to say.

I have no patience with folks who make harsh comments. One of my favorite video stars splays his brush in a manner that will damage it over time. He also tells great stories and teaches me things I didn't know. I'm not going to make harsh comments about that. It's my responsibility to learn what I need to know.

The wet shaving industry doesn't hasn't produced wealthy people as far as I know. The husband at Maggard's still has a day job. These are folks who have a passion about wet shaving and contribute as they can without making a lot of money.

Also, I think about what big money has done for shaving - I'm waiting for one to be named The UltraCool BMX 1000 25 Blade Cartridge, only $9.99 for a cartridge that lasts a week.

BadDad, I hate to say it but I am not surprised at some of the nasty responses you received about your videos.  I don't tend to get as much out of videos as I do reading (forums).  However, yours were different.  Yours were a combination of shaving, gear, products, with some social commentary thrown in to make things interesting.  You looked directly into the camera from time to time, as you were shaving, and I had the sense that you were talking directly to each of us watching.  Not everyone who does videos pulls that off.

As I said, more often than not, I prefer reading to videos.  However, the out and out smut that so many vomit out in their comments in both forms of communication is appalling.  I would say that at seventy years it's my age and generation.  That is not necessarily true, though.  I have been a moderator on the original DFS, TSN, and now here long enough to know that being mean spirited is more than just age related.  I cannot tell you the number of times when someone has been given a ban for this type of behavior the person either professes his innocence or throws his vitriol either at the site in general or directly at the administrators/moderators.  When it comes to civility these folks have blinders on.

I'll get off my soapbox now but, Chris, I think if you decide to do any more videos, your DFS audience would welcome rhem. Happy2

I used to watch a lot of shaving videos when I first started out, but not so much anymore. The only one I enjoy watching anymore is Michael Freedberg. I just like his personality and approach to doing his videos. But for the most part, I don't need anymore food for my acquisition disorders! DFS is enough, lol. I don't understand the bashing though. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple. Just because you disagree with a certain technique or don't like a certain product, it doesn't mean it won't work for somebody else. Like momma always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I give up other forums due to attitudes such as this. I have yet to see any of that here which is a credit to the Forum Staff and the quality of members that we have.

life is too short to be angry all the time. if I start to watch a video that I find boring or don't like, I just move on...no big deal!

I commend anyone who takes the time to make a video, for any reason. I don't think anyone needs to justify a reason for making videos of them self shaving or making lather.. it takes some time to figure out your camera positioning, setting up a tripod, pulling the video from the camera, editing it, if need be, and then uploading it.

BadDad, have you considered just disabling comments on your videos? I wouldn't let the haters get to you..

Part of why I was doing it was for the interaction. I enjoyed the positive responses more than the negative bothered me, so I left comments open.

I'm too arrogant to let haters get to me for too long. I stopped making videos because the negativity combined with an extremely busy time and a rough social environment to form a perfect storm. I really have stepped back so that I could just enjoy the shaves, instead of worrying about making a video.

Part of the issue is that I try really hard to be a socially conscious individual. As we are all aware, society in the US is at a bit of a tumultuous point. I made a few videos where I found myself just being completely quiet, to avoid being overtly political or condescending, or running off on tangents, and neither was enjoyable for me.

I plan on making a few more videos after this election cycle is over. By then, work will have slowed down to a more fruitful pace, and hopefully society will have taken a collective chill pill, and we can all get back to things more enjoyable...We shall see...If I can get back to a point where making them is enjoyable, I will continue on from there. If not...nothing ventured, nothing gained, nothing lost. I gave it a shot...

I will say that I REALLY appreciate the support here. You guys are all flippin' AWESOME!

I still watch these YouTube shavers regularly:

PaulH Films - how can you not like this guy ?

Nick Shaves - even though I really don't feel I can learn anything from him, he just seems like a straight up honest good guy

The Stallion Anthony Esponito - he has seemed a bit off the last 5-6 months, sort of lost the inspiration a bit and sounded a bit deperessed and negative over the whole shaving thing - but he's a good guy and down to earth. Some times he says all soaps and creams are equally great perfomers, other days Baume.Be really IS better than Xpec cream........we are all fickle, it's human nature, I'm fickle as heck too :-)

Kevy Shaves - just a great old ladd from scotland, a rookie still, but just seems like a good genuine guy. I like his videos.

Mauro di Lerna - he only makes videos in italian, so if you understand just a little bit Italian, he is still worth watching. Even if you don't speak Italian at all, still give him a chance !

TSE - Chris Bailey. I love to hate him, but he is a solid stand up guy. Still love his Acqua di parma vs RazoRock XxX video, where he compares the new ADP NON-Colonia to RazoRock XxX, sort of like comparing Santa Maria Novella V3 to Green Proraso, when it was Santa Maria Novella v1, that smells like Green Proraso, and SMN v3 smells of green tobacco leaf and could be compard to another entirely different soap scent.
The two Chris should have compared were Acqua di parma Coloni and Razorock XxX, XxX was inspired/a clone of Acqua di Parma Colonia, or a good try at least. The new Acqua di Parma has NOTHING in common with RazoRock XxX, yet the video is still up on his channel. But I still like the guy and his videos.
