Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a 0.61 Wolfman which appears to be too aggressive for my sensitive neck area. I'm going to try to obtain a reduced gap head if I can, but I am not sure if I should go with the 0.54 or the 0.48

Can anyone provide some feedback on their experiences with a reduced gap Wolfman? Here are the razors that I use for comparison sake:

Rocwell 6 S (#4)
Timeless 0.68
Edwin Jagger DE 89
Barbaros TR-2
Wolfman Guerrilla
Merkur HD 34C
Gillette Fat Boy (#5)
Delta Echo Slim (#5)

All the razors listed above provide me with a comfortable, non-irritated shave.

Thank you

I just got a .54. I only have a few shaves in, so touch base with me in about a week. I can compare it to the Rockwell.

What plate do you use on the Rockwell?

0.54 is similar to Rockwell 3.5 to me.

I have used mine (0.54) for >20 days straight after getting it last month, and I would say this : don't be surprised to find out what you already have to be better than wolfman for your sensitive areas, specially during ATG pass. At least that's the case for me so far (34c, de89, 6S, bb, Fatboy etc).

I use mostly plate 3. It is a very carefree shave, comfortable, and close. At 3 shaves in with the Wolfman, I don't disagree with what iamsms said above. However, rather than 3.5 I might say plate 3. I am still learning the razor though and need to experiment with my angle and different blades. I have been using Isreali Personna's (my favorite blade in the Rockwell). Today I will try a Pol Silver.

I love many of the razors you mentioned and now love my Wolfman .61. It took a lot of work with the razor however because I like you, thought it felt too aggressive. Give it about 7 more shaves before you do anything drastic. I worked with mine for weeks before I finally found the right angle/pressure combo to make the Wolfman one of my top 3. My advice is to give it just a little more time.

You are certainly correct in pointing out that practice and time can resolve many shaving issues. I can get a reasonably comfortable shave with my Wolfman when I use Derby blades and an extremely light touch, I'm just not sure that I want to work that hard for a good shave.

Understood. I want to say I had to have a much more shallow angle of attack with this razor than I thought at first. Seems like I was scraping a bit. Anyway, the .68SB Timeless is still my absolute favorite razor in the world, and like you, I like the MERKUR 34HD, and the Delta Echo Slim. I found my mildest blade to use in the Wolfman was the Astra SP and its the only blade I can use in the razor. Anyway, good luck to you with your shaves, but it does sound like you and I prefer the same types of razors/shaves which makes me say, give it just a bit more time before you get an adjustment. I'm not sure I would like a lower blade gap on it.

Question: when you say the Timeless .68 SB is your favorite razor, do you mean straight bar or scalloped bar? Also, what top cap?

I have the Timeless .68 Straight bar with the smooth top cap. This was what the owner of Timeless told me would be the smoothest configuration. I must say, Id really like to try the .68 Scalloped head/Cap but for whatever reason I've never bothered. Would be nice to have a backup of my Timeless but just slightly different.
