I found a few pucks of Williams Mug Shaving Soap at the grocery store last night. I had read the soap was discontinued about a year ago. Does anyone know if they started making them again? Or have these been sitting on the store shelf for a year? For a $1,89, I bought one just as a display for the den Smile

I contacted Combe Incorporated about a year ago asking that same question....here is the response that I got back in October of 2015:

Quote:Thank you for your email to Combe Incorporated. We sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to your request.

We are not discontinuing the William's Mug Soap but this product is in limited distribution.

Again, we apologize for the delay and want to thank you for taking the time to contact us and appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,Tamara

I still see it in stores like Fred's and a few grocery stores that I go to.

The latest (and soon to be last) incarnation of this old legend made by Combe is a mere shadow of its former self. Yes, you can get a decent shave with it if you know what you're doing, but there are far better soaps available today. It's going out with a whimper. The king is dead.

Thanks for the replies. I had read that it wasn't the best of soaps and I doubt I will even try to make it work. But it does look good in the "vintage" section of the den

It's a fine display piece from the history of shaving. A shaving soap from the bygone era when men were men -- with tiny bits of toilet paper stuck all over their faces. Smile

The King isn't dead, if you follow BadDad 's suggested super lather technique using Williams and Nivea sensitive shave cream you can get a great shave for very little money.

0.o couldn't the same be said for anything mixed with Nivea shave cream.

I don't get it's a great product as long as you mix it with a great product defenses.

Nivea cream is great by its self, so really your just using nova cream being brought down by bad Williams. Godrej is cheap too and it works good al by its self.
