Same here. I used to have a Super Adjustable that was my birth year razor I was never impressed with the shave either. I had it cranked all the way to 9 and thought it was still too mild. I ended up selling it and decided adjustable razors are either pointless or just not for me.

You have to remember the fat boy was only made for 4 years so they're not as abundant as the other adjustables funny there's a really nice one on Facebook that's being raffled on wet Shavers buy sell trade and raffle beautiful looking razor. It's in a really nice case with original blade dispenser

I find most people that like really aggressive razors the adjustables just don't make it

I haven't really liked any of the vintage Gillettes I've tried. I have a slim that I would use as a travel razor, but I don't like the long handle. It feels awkward to me. I think as far as adjustables go, I would probably like the Fatboy better than the slim.

Fatboy didn't work so well for me but I like the looks of it. I wouldn't overpay for it but it's nice to have one in the den.

"You have to remember the fat boy was only made for 4 years so they're not as abundant as the other adjustables"....

See should actually read

"You have to remember they only made millions of them for four years and only a few thousand show up on eBay every month".

It's this nonsense that rationalizes price gouging and speculation. It's a freaking common razor, it's not an Apollo Mikron or Gibbs for crissakes. Its not even a vintage Progress. There are 2x more Fatboys than Black Beauties on eBay (BB are getting expensive as well). Because it was a nice razor, many received as gifts, a lot were kept intact (see Rolls Razor). They are everywhere.

Got my '58 D3 right here on DFS for $50. I enjoy the shaves I get from it.

Once I got mine overclocked by a couple of levels, it became one of my favorites. The TTO is extremely convenient, the knurling is just right as far as grip without scratching your hands. The best things, for me, though, are the weight, length, and balance. For me, this razor has the perfect combination of those three attributes. The only other razor that's close for me is the Fatip Grande.

I've had a few and sold them.

I like the weight, feel, and chunk, but the head is too fat for under the nose.

Slim and Super are preferred for me.

Good question. In the life of Gillette I don't think there has been a more engineered razor than the fatboy. A lot led up to the fatboy and a lot panned out after the fatboy. I recall reading somewhere that Gillette spent a significant amount of time getting the Fatboy right, only to move off of it and onto the slim and other variations. Having used a fair number of Gillette's adjustables I think the toggle was (and continues to be for me) the pinnacle of the Gillette adjustables. From there economics took over the the toggle is relegated to the "too expensive to produce" dust pile. I love my slim and black beauty but I absolutely love my fatboy toggle.
