Who Makes Heinrich L. Thäter Brush handles

Does anyone believe that Shavemac manufactures Heinrich L. Thäter handles?

It’s my understanding that they do. I own and enjoy both brands.

The similarities are hard to miss. I actually had assumed that Shavemac was just a branch of Thater for that reason. I did some research recently following discussion of the new Thater synth brushes. I didn’t find much info out there, except for a few mentions of shavemac making Thater handles. The two companies seem to have a close relationship but maybe someone has more authoritative information.

Thäter admits on their website that they purchase some of their components.  We all know that every brush maker purchases the knot materials, so it has to be the handles because the are a very small company

I believe Rudy Vey confirmed from Shavemac during a visit to them that Shavemac does indeed sell handles to Thater. I imagine Shavemac sells to a few other places as well. Possibly Da Vinci, and likely Savile Row. People think Shavemac makes Savile Row, but I'm not so sure I agree. The hair is too different for the one I have and have had. My favorite Savile Row is the old long loft. It's like a combination of 3-band Silvertip and 3-band D01 with a touch better resiliency in the base of the shaft almost going to 2-band resiliency. Perhaps batch variance, but I have had quite a few Shavemacs too in those grades that don't come close to how that Savile Row is. Also forgot to mention is that the Savile Row does this with less density than Shavemac.

Yes, that is what I said. Shavemac started initially out as a handle maker only, and supplied the surrounding brush makers. This area in Germany is famous for brush and broom making. When Bernd started in the company, he started to make the complete brushes. I also have seen a number of Saville Row brushes while I visited some years ago -  at least then, Shavemac made them. I also believe they made Art of Shaving high end brushes at some time.

I remember hearing about Shavemac making Art of Shaving and some that passed through my den fit with Shavemac grades. Thanks for the confirmation Rudy!
