Was it too smoky or dirty?  I'm curious because that was one of three Eufros scents I've trying to decide between purchasing (other 2 being Tobacco and Rosa Oud).

It just has too much of a dry straw-like tone for me. I like a vétiver that is somewhat sweeter, like the Guerlain aftershave I used today.
Two words for you. Black Velvet.

Yep, it’s official.  This puck of Harris Marlborough is immortal.  I keep shaving off of it and I swear it’s bulking up with the exercise!  I sure do enjoy a hard soap and fattie silver tip badger brush. Seems the  height of luxury.  Scents on a puck like this are generally never bold or brash but understated and lovely.  Even gentlemanly.  I’m in no mood to kill this puck but enjoy it to its very end.  Might use it before attending a buddy’s wedding tomorrow!  But maybe something smoky instead.  I have 45 lbs of pork butt in the smoker because his caterer had a death in The family and bailed!  Sucks to lose a family member but losing your caterer the day before your wedding is typical of 2021.  It’s smelling good out back of the house.

Seems like this month was supposed to be all about roses. Then the heat set in, and I sort of lost the plot. Let’s see if I can pick it up again.

McDuff's is getting a lot of attention around here lately. Judging from the lather shots, it deserves it. So when this tub of Rose Gold flew in from Edmonton this morning, I immediately cracked the lid and took a whiff. “Wow!” Thick, heady, and ambrosial, it smelled like chocolate covered cherries in dark syrup. Not really rosy, but interesting. I could hardly wait to lather up. Within an hour, I filled my brush and went to work building a thick lather. The stuff's rich and sleek, and I was enjoying getting acquainted. But then something whacky happened. It all just stopped smelling. I swabbed and swabbed all over my face, but all I smelled was soap. Just then my wife walked in. I passed her the brush and asked what she smelled. “Nothing.” This was really odd, not to mention abrupt. Like going from 60 to 0 in five seconds. I can’t fault the lather itself. It’s gorgeous. Just look at HoosierShave’s post today. But it doesn’t matter how I twist my nose around this lather, I just can’t call it rose. In fact, I'm not sure I can call it anything at all.

COVID?
Whoa! I wonder? ... Naw! Unless it was sudden onset Covid that disappeared as soon as it came. And it affected my wife the same way. It's getting hot down here. I'm thinking the scent just burned off quickly. I'm looking forward to trying this soap again in a few days if things cool off. The post shave was fantastic!

Crema da Barba v. (Santa Maria Novella) Tabacco Toscano, eucalyptus

Vanilla, burnt malt, amber – they’re what makes this scent so sweet. You wouldn’t think that trio could work with eucalyptus and menthol, but these notes taken together are an all-star line up. They’re certainly smooth and refreshing, a tobacco-scented soap you can enjoy even on a dog day like today. Today’s razor is the other reason I chose this soap. The Henson Al13 is a sticky little thing. It’s just brushed aluminum without any coating. When I shave, it feels like it’s sucking up my skin. SMN, on the other hand, has a reputation for slickness. I was hoping the Crema da Barba would give enough slip to keep the Henson sliding. But I hoped in vain. I got a good enough shave, but compared to a nickel- or chrome-plated razor, this raw aluminum gives a bumpy ride, even with a slick soap.

Legendary stuff! And now I’m no longer on the fence with a Henson Ai!
