I usually shave 2-3x a week and did so on Monday, however I needed to make sure the mini-review of the soap used was truthful and NOT just the incredible knot of my brush working it’s magic! Tonight I used a different brush and the results were the same….like fresh churned butter

Like everyone I’m downsizing software too, real estate in my bathroom is at “Four Fairfield Pond” prices and only software that can contribute to the Art of Shaving can stay

WHO did Ken commission to create/mix/churn/cook this stuff? Honestly does anyone know? My guess with the help of DanLaw is Volobra? It wouldn’t surprise me, Ken does have a reputation of doing things with finesse

The performance of this soap is Top Shelf.  The Lather is rich and lubricating, razor glides over my skin without any drag.  The lather does not dry out, stays alive the entire first pass and solid phantom lather.  My skin was well moisturised after the short second pass and detail.  The detail did not require re-application, it was all phantom lather.  I have the Unscented Paladin Balm, another win

Natchez Trace scent is VERY nice, it’s not my usual “I want to smell like that ALL DAY strength” however it’s not faint, it’s always there in a subtle way.  This is supposed to smell like Bay, Pine and Cedar.  It smells like an earthy, woodsy/smoky “lite pine,” sweet/spicy sage with a splash of vanilla-y goodness. Not quite Frankincense, it smells like Palo Santo! Think bonfire and the first rush of fresh pine mingles with the smoke, but lighter

The container is heavy Amber Glass with an airtight lid.  No wonder the scent has been preserved all these years.  I think these were made in 2016-ish?

I see these soaps at the Paladin website. Some appear available, I’ve never asked Ken if they are.  At 5oz for $12.50, the soap outperforms the price.  By today’s standards, this is a $28 soap. I’m reaching out to Ken tomorrow and asking if they’re available, and if they are I want Pythian Way, Crossroads, Silk Road and another balm possibly 2.  The Silk Road sounds real interesting: Vetiver, Lavender, Anise! So a smoky woodsy flowery licorice? Is that right?

Toothpaste comes in many flavors, but for a clean feeling mouth, give me mint every time. Shaving works the same way. My soap stash harbors representatives of over twenty fragrance families from roses to rum to flowers and weeds. They’re all a delight to use, and I really enjoy the variety. But when I want a clean shave, I reach for a fougère. Even after trying hundreds of soaps, to me a fougère is what classic double-edged shaving should smell like.

Bouki-meister: what our where does this fit in the green family tree? Do you have a good analogy? Thx in advance
TommyCarioca. This is a very bright fougère. Somehow Will pours a little liquid sunshine into the mix. It's not really a citrusy brightness, although I do pick up some bergamot. It's more an aldehydic bright. That's to say, it seems like an aromachemical, but in a good way. I'm not sure how to put this, but to me it feels like something you'd meet in a 1960s drugstore or barbershop. It's not very complex, and it could use some more moss and tonka, but for a shaving soap, it's very nice. The lavender in it smells a lot like the Barrister's Reserve Lavender. Among my soaps, its closest relative is probably Le Père Lucien's Cologne-FougèreIf I didn't have so many others soaps peeping at me like little chicks, I could happily get lost in this soap for weeks at a time.

Somebody help me out here. What does this soap smell like to you?
The Reserve Line is MUCH different than the other line. Much like the Paladin I used this week, dialed in its fresh churned butter.

I get Patchouli, Sweet Musk, Lemongrass, Violet out of this one.  Agreed, MORE TONKA and MORE FERN please.

I could be happy with this one for a few weeks.  Normally I’m a “Dark Scents of a Moroccan Bazaar” kinda guy

Thank You Tommy! This Paladin Soap is so nice to work with, you can swirl away and the same result every time.  Not super thirsty or a complicated hot mess

Pssshhhhhh, it’s amazing right?

Now, keeping performance in mind, do you think Sri can outdo himself building an equally dark and awesome scent? Try King of Bourbon, ha. Just when you think you’ve crowned the King of Dark Scents this one comes along. Don’t read into the “what its supposed to smell like caption under its photo.” One thing I learned here at the DFS Soap Hangout is “things are not always what someone else smells!”

I guess that will be one of my next purchases or trades.  lol
